Hello everyone!
I've been a fan of Kinopoisk for ages, but I only started using it seriously two years ago when I needed to watch a specific film that was only available on the platform. At the time, I signed up for the "free" subscription, which was a one-ruble deal for three months. It was like a trial period, and I tried out a few other services too, but I ended up sticking with Kinopoisk because it was the one I liked the most.
Kinopoisk app subscription – how to get the best deal Once the free period was over, I decided to upgrade to a paid subscription for 299 rubles a month. I've been using the service ever since, and over the past two years, I've formed a pretty solid opinion about it – and I've also got some tips that can help you save some money on the subscription.

The app is pretty user-friendly, and I won't bore you with the details. Let's talk about the main features.
When you launch the app, you're greeted with the KinoPoisk logo:

You can scroll down or sideways to browse. There's always something to watch. KinoPoisk app subscription - is it worth it? review

Kinopoisk app subscription - a worthwhile purchase reviewI have more than 500 films (I didn't count them, but before the last update, I saw that there were over 500 added films, now they've removed that feature, I don't know why). It's really convenient to add liked films by description to "watch later" - a special checkbox helps with this, located in each film/series card and so on. Example:
The Download FeatureDownloads.I've found the download feature super useful - you can load up a movie and watch it later, even without an internet connection. That's exactly what I did on my last train ride, and it was a lifesaver. Now my downloads folder is empty, but I'm looking forward to loading up some new movies.
The Folders FeatureFolders.Organizing my movies into folders has been a game-changer. I've got two main folders: watched movies and favorite movies. It's so easy to keep track of what I've seen and what I'm still waiting to watch.
Adding Films to FoldersAdding a movie to a folder is a breeze - you can do it straight from the movie card.

Next up after My is Search, where you can type in the name of a movie and the platform will give you the results. But don't get too excited just yet, because unfortunately not all movies are available in the theater. Some new releases are missing, as are old classics – I'm not sure why. Still, some movies do eventually show up, like we waited ages for Guy Ritchie's Knights to come out, and at first it wasn't on KinoPoisk, then it appeared, although I'm not sure how long it took. And then there are movies that just never show up, even after a year or two...
Here are some examples of movies that are available on the site, but don't have a 'watch' button:
KinoPoisk subscription review: how to get the most value As for how the movies get added to the theater, I have no idea. But here's another thing: there are loads of great TV shows and movies you can watch by buying an additional subscription with Amedia, which will set you back an extra 400 rubles on top of your KinoPoisk subscription. Kinopoisk app subscription - a confusing setupHonestly, I don't get this separation. It'd be way better if they just had a Premium subscription that cost an order of magnitude more, but gave you access to all the movies. Why pay for a subscription and then have to pay extra for individual movies? Some services have done it that way: they created multiple subscription tiers with different perks, and you choose what's best for you.
I didn't end up getting the additional subscription with Amediateka, because 400 rubles on top of 299 is just a rip-off for me. I don't watch movies every day, so it wouldn't be worth it. To be honest, this aspect really puts me off...
That said, Amediateka's subscription does have some amazing shows, like House of the Dragon. But paying extra on top of what I've already paid is just not something I want to do.

The last tab is your Profile and Settings. It's all pretty straightforward, so I won't dwell on it.

I also wanted to mention that the service is accessible both through a browser on your PC and through the mobile app. You can log in from your computer and pick up where you left off on your phone, which is super convenient.
Here's what the main page looks like when you log in through a browser on your PC:
Kinopoisk app subscription as a pro from a user reviewOne minor thing to note: you can't take a screenshot while watching a movie (this applies to both the mobile app and the browser on your PC). I'm not sure why, but I remember taking screenshots from the app last year for my reviews on Aireek. I don't get why I'm not allowed to take screenshots for my own money!
Since Kinopoisk doesn't allow screenshots, I can only show you a photo taken on my phone. Unfortunately, I had to resort to this old-school method:
Kinopoisk app subscription as a pro from a user reviewI specifically launched the movie on my laptop just to give you an example. I usually watch movies on my phone, as it's more convenient for me.
Using the movie "The Revenge of the Fashionista" (since I started with that one) as an example, I'll show you what the profile of a movie/series looks like on Kinopoisk.
Kinopoisk app subscription - a great way to watch You can watch a movie, add it to your "watchlist", see the movie's rating, read reviews from other users, check out the cast and crew, read some interesting facts in the "did you know" section, and watch trailers.
Kinopoisk can be connected to your TV if it supports the internet. To do this, you need to go to the app and start setting it up, and on your TV, you'll need to install the app and update the software. It's all pretty straightforward and takes no time at all.
Kinopoisk app subscription - a great way to watch Voice control is a game-changer for me. I can use it to search for movies, check out reviews, and even control playback. It's so convenient.

🎬 About the subscription:
To really get the most out of the Kinopoisk service, I don't just want to read info and make lists, but actually watch movies - and that requires a subscription. Kinopoisk is powered by Yandex: so when I signed up for Yandex Plus, I got access to Kinopoisk (although I still remember the good old days when a Kinopoisk subscription cost extra).
Now that I've logged into my Yandex profile, I automatically became a Kinopoisk user.
❗You don't need to register separately in the online cinema!
I used to renew my subscription every month for 299 rubles. Then, on my birthday, my mobile operator Megafon gave me a half-year free subscription to Yandex Plus (and Kinopoisk too, of course), so I wouldn't be a voice of discontent - here are the screenshots:
Kinopoisk subscription as a nice way to save money - review❗On September 26, 2023, I received a subscription that lasted until March 24, 2024, and I didn't pay a single kopeck during that period!
I was, of course, thrilled not to pay for half a year and save 1800 rubles! I don't know if Megafon will give me similar perks this year, but I would really love that 🤭

Telling you how my friend and I saved on the subscription.
I've got to say, the monthly subscription for WB is 299 rubles, but you can get a yearly subscription for 3588 rubles, or even snag a deal for 2500/2900 rubles. However, that's not always the most convenient option. But don't worry, there's a way out. WB offers Yandex Plus subscriptions starting from 900 rubles and going up to 1200 rubles on average. You'll receive a little package with a code to activate your subscription at Yandex, and you can add up to 3 more people to your family plan. Plus, you can split the subscription cost among all of you. That's exactly what we did. Our WB subscription cost 984 rubles, which works out to 246 rubles per person for four of us. And that's for a whole year! It's almost as much as I used to pay each month.
Kinopoisk app subscription as a cost-effective way to reviewI think this is a great way to save money if you've got friends or family members who are heavy users of Yandex Plus or just love watching movies and shows. You can split the yearly subscription cost among four people!

GENERAL IMPRESSIONS:
Overall, I really like the service Kinopoisk for its simple and user-friendly interface, as well as the detailed info about movies. But other features are just as useful, such as:
➡️ The ability to download a movie offline and watch it later, without being tied to the internet. That's super convenient:
On the go, like when I was on a train where the internet connection was spottyOn vacation, on the beach where there's no internet but I had my phone handyIn the hospital, when I was stuck there and needed to pass the time.I personally took a train ride and I was bored out of my mind, my phone and power bank were lifesavers – I had loaded up a few movies beforehand and watched them through my headphones. I managed to watch three whole movies during the trip, and before I knew it, the time had flown by.
➡️ Video and audio quality. The movies and shows were all in great quality, I could even choose the studio's dubbing or subtitles (not all movies had it, though), the picture was bright and clear. The audio was top-notch, especially for those with good equipment – my husband was blown away by the sound quality, and I didn't even notice sometimes.
➡️ No ads. You know, like those free sites where some random company suddenly blasts an ad in your face)
➡️ You can even watch the trailer before you start watching to see if the movie's your thing or not.
➡️ The platform lets you pick up where you left off, no need to search for that last episode – it's a lifesaver when you're watching a long series with many seasons.
➡️ You can watch on your PC or smartphone – I've had cases where I started watching on my phone, then switched to my laptop or desktop and continued from where I left off.
➡️ I also love making lists: what I want to watch and what I've already seen (back in the day, I even had a separate notebook where I'd write down all the movies and shows I wanted to watch, and I'd put a checkmark next to them if I'd already seen them). Now, I use Kinopoisk for that. I can even rate the movies and write a review if I want to.

Despite all the perks, I think the online cinema Kinopoisk is great – I've been using it for two years, and my only gripe is that they don't have all the movies. Sure, the library is constantly growing, and new movies are added all the time, but some of the older ones are still missing, like Anne Karenina from 2012 and Cruella from 2021. And that's not even the new releases – those are added pretty quickly.
It's weird that they've removed Harry Potter – it was available last year, and I rewatched all the movies over the holidays. Then it was available on subscription with Amedia, but now it's gone. I have no idea what their selection criteria are.

🎬 THE NOT-SO-GREAT:
❌ Not all movies are available on the platform, which is a bummer.
❌ You need to purchase an additional subscription to watch some movies or shows, which is a bit of a drawback.

🎬 THE VERDICT:
I'm really happy with the Kinopoisk platform – it's become second nature to me. I love how easy it is to use and how I can keep track of the movies I've seen and the ones I'm planning to watch. The only downside is that some of the really great and interesting movies are only available with an additional purchase or by searching elsewhere.
My rating? 4 out of 5 ⭐
