A Fun, Kid-Friendly Ride! I'm loving the classic fairy tale characters - it's a blast from the past!

summarizeEditor's Summary

My son's been devouring kid's detective stories lately, and I've got to say, this series by Katya Matyushkina is a total game changer. The stories are engaging, entertaining, and full of intricate plot twists that keep my kid on the edge of his seat. What I love most is how Katya presents the stories in a way that's both fun and educational - it's not just a dry story with a few illustrations, but a real page-turner that becomes your child's companion for a few days. I've re-read these stories myself and I'm constantly amazed by Katya's creativity and attention to detail. The series is full of valuable life lessons and morals that my son is learning, and the characters are well-developed and relatable, making it easy for him to become invested in their adventures. Plus, the stories are well-paced and easy to follow, even for a reluctant reader. Overall, this series is a great choice for kids aged 4-10, and I highly recommend it.

Hello!
I've noticed my son has developed a taste for kid's detective stories lately. But let's face it, not all of them are as engaging as the series by Katya Matyushkina. I've re-read them myself and I'm constantly amazed by how she comes up with such intricate stories and presents them in such a way.
This isn't just a dry story with a few illustrations - it's a real page-turner that becomes your child's companion for a few days. It's engaging and entertaining, as you'll see below.

Today I want to talk about Vetki Ioleyovy or Adventures of Vanya in Boots and Sarafan. Katya Matyushkina

☆ SUMMARY
One dark night in the enchanted forest, Baba Yaga started casting a spell - she built a massive cauldron, mixed some roots, whispered incantations, and... the entire forest turned upside down. Who's going to sort this out now?
Katya Matyushkina
I really love the way Katya Matyushkina designs her books.
Vetki Ioleyovy or Adventures of Vanya in Boots and Sarafan. Katya Matyushkina
The illustrations are always bright and great. We had others back in the day, but I think they're inferior. Now they're catering to a new generation.
Vetki Ioleyovy or Adventures of Vanya in Boots and Sarafan. Katya Matyushkina
There are plenty of illustrations in this book. My child learns to visualize and imagine along with the text. When I listened to him reading aloud, I had Koshchei from the movie Bogatyry (played by Konstantin Lavronenko) in my head. But the pictures put everything into perspective.
Katya MatyushkinaKatya Matyushkina
The characters in this book are all familiar - Baba Yaga, Leshy, Kikimora, Koshchei the Deathless, and Gorinysh, but they're presented in a more modern illustration style.
Katy Matyushkina
I love how these characters are so cute and unique, each with their own level of mischief.
Katy Matyushkina Katy Matyushkina
I almost forgot to mention Water Spirit.
Veniki Elovye or Adventures of Vanya in Boots and a Sarafan. Katy Matyushkina
But the real star of the show is Vanya, the granddaughter (yes, a boy's name, but that's what happened!). At first, it was tough for me to wrap my head around the name, and my son was asking questions because he's also named Ivan. I was giggling at the title and Vanya in a sarafan, but this character really teaches others a lot and makes some great conclusions. We all grow and learn from our own mistakes and those of others.
Katy Matyushkina
Baba Yaga is, of course, fantastic and fun-loving. With her vast experience, she's still a bit naive. The jokes and scenes are all kid-friendly and hilarious.
Katy Matyushkina
These main characters have centuries of history behind them. Some are bored, while others are longing for something. It's great when you have a friend who's a legendary figure from a fairy tale.
Katy Matyushkina
I'm really enjoying the illustrations – I think you'll take note of this book from my review!

PLOT
The plot is dynamic and engaging – I won't give it away, but it's a real page-turner. I just want to say that it's fresh and offers a new take on the children's detective genre.
Katy Matyushkina
There are plenty of activities for readers to enjoy – you have to guess, draw in the book (although I'm not a fan of that), and think about the puzzles.
Venyki Ielyovy or Priklyucheniya Vani v laptyakh i sarafane. Katya Matyushkina Honestly, these books aren't hard to get through. I'm saying that again because it's worth repeating. As a kid, we were taught to be careful with our belongings, but I've come to realize that it's actually pretty great to let kids express themselves and make mistakes. My son has his own little workspace where he can get creative, and it's amazing to see him learn and grow.
My husband actually gave me a hard time about this. He said that kids need their own space to be kids, and that's absolutely true. Every kid is different, and what works for one might not work for another. So, I think it's really open to interpretation.
Katya Matyushkina I've lost count, but there are probably around a dozen stories in this book, and that's not even counting the extras.
Katya Matyushkina Katya Matyushkina The stories are easy to follow, and you don't need to force kids to read them.
Katya Matyushkina
My Verdict and Impressions
- Perfect for reading outside of class or on your own
- Fun and engaging detective stories that'll keep you hooked
- An exciting plot that'll keep you on the edge of your seat
- Lovable characters that have been around for generations
- Written in a way that's easy to understand and fun to read
- Plenty of hilarious moments to keep you smiling
- Includes fun activities for readers to participate in, like guessing, drawing, and thinking
I highly recommend the book "Venyki Ielyovy or Priklyucheniya Vani v laptyakh i sarafane." by Katya Matyushkina
Thanks for reading my review!
