Balkan Lokanta & Kofte House

This Balkan Lokanta & Kofte House in Istanbul is the real deal for traditional Turkish eats. They've got stews and meatballs on the menu in the Fatih, Sultanahmet, and Istiklal areas. It's your chance to taste authentic flavors right in the heart of Turkey. From stews to meatballs, their menu offers a variety of traditional Turkish dishes that are sure to satisfy your cravings. Whether you're in the Fatih, Sultanahmet, or Istiklal area, this restaurant is a must-visit for anyone looking to try authentic Turkish cuisine. I've been to all three locations, and the food is consistently delicious.

Hello fellow travelers!

When you're traveling, one thing is crystal clear: food is a top priority. You need to fuel up constantly, especially in a massive city like Istanbul, where there are countless options to choose from. And with prices skyrocketing everywhere in Turkey, you'll want to know where to find the best value for money.

Main food factors are taste, quality, and price.

After scouring reviews and tips from fellow travelers, I put together a mini-guide to the best areas in Istanbul for a quick bite. Sultanahmet is a great area to explore, with plenty of options for foodies.

Right in front of the main entrance to Sultanahmet is a classic kebab joint called Tarihi Sultanahmet Köftecisi. I headed there for dinner and was impressed with the cozy spot and speedy service. I ordered, pointed to the menu, and had my food in just 5 minutes. It's not the cheapest option, but the flavors were spot on and the portions were generous.

2 portions of kebabs, fries, salad, and 2 ayranPriceIt's a lively spot, but don't worry – the food won't give you any stomach issues. Minus points: limited menu options and a bit pricey. Keep an eye out for the service charge (10% of the total bill). Not all cafes include this.

Fatih, Eminönü, and Istiklal are other great areas to explore. These neighborhoods are packed with Balkan Lokantasi options, which are easy to spot – just look for the crowds and the serving style, which is more like a cafeteria. I tried Balkan Lokantasi and had a great experience. The food is homemade, delicious, and affordable. I ate there for 5 days and had no issues with my stomach.

Plus, they always had lemons and hot water on hand, which was a nice bonus. Cleanliness: 9/10. I appreciated the availability of a sink and toilet.

I also tried some amazing pastries at Hafiz Mustafa 1864 Sirkeci, which were totally worth the splurge. The service was quick and friendly, but be prepared for a higher price. I've got a separate review for their products on my page, and let's just say the pahlava was out of this world. Best pahlava ever

You'll probably come across shops like these along the way. They offer sweets of varying quality and prices.
