summarizeEditor's Summary

I spent a whole day at iMall esplanada in Perm, and I'm here to give you the lowdown on what's good and what's not. As a parent, I was stoked to see a modern shopping center with plenty of entertainment options for kids. But is it just another mall or could it have been something more? Let's dive in and find out. From the facade to the food court, I'll share my honest thoughts on what iMall esplanada has to offer. With its sleek design and impressive water feature, it's definitely a spot worth visiting. But don't expect it to be a game-changer – it's a solid addition to the city's shopping scene, but it's not without its flaws. The building's modern design is a great addition to the city's esplanade, and the high water feature in the lobby is a beautiful touch. The panoramic elevator offers a nice view of the esplanade, and there are plenty of comfortable seating areas throughout the mall. The food court has a great selection of restaurants and a unique island seating area, and the ventilation system works well, keeping the mall cool and comfortable. However, the facade's accordion design doesn't impress – it's a bit too flashy, and the entrance's automatic revolving door can be a bit of a pain when it gets stuck. Some of the stores are duplicated in other nearby malls, and there are a few too many expensive shops for my taste. I was also disappointed by the lack of an internal map – it's hard to get your bearings at first. Is the new iMall esplanada just another mall or could it have been an epic water park? Pros and cons, and who might actually love it.
I've spent a fair amount of time at the new iMall shopping center in Perm, and my most recent visit was so long that I ended up spending almost the entire day there, accompanying my son to chess tournaments. During that time, I got to know iMall pretty well, and in this review, I'll be sharing what caught my attention the most.
The building of iMall is easily visible from the Perm esplanade. Honestly, the facade didn't impress me much - the red-orange design looks a bit like an accordion. In the center, there's a large screen with an advertisement, surrounded by multiple mirrored windows.
Under the screen, there's the main entrance with an automatic revolving door that often gets stuck, causing a bit of panic among people entering.
In the lobby, there's a beautiful high water feature with lighting, followed by a panoramic elevator that goes up to 4 floors and down to 3 floors 'underground', where you'll find Galamart, MVideo, Peresekrostok (on -1 floor), and 2 parking levels). From the 2nd floor, you can see a nice view of the Lenin-Popov intersection through the panoramic windows.
You can navigate iMall using the signs near the elevator and the indicators near the escalators:
You can also take the escalators to the upper floors. But: one of them only goes up to 3 floors (the cinema is above it), and the other one takes you to the 4th floor, where you'll find the cinema, a children's entertainment center, and the food court.
Interior Layout:
We participated in a tournament that took place right on the food court, which was roughly a quarter of the way through the mall. Everything was set up nicely: mall visitors could watch us play chess, and we could easily grab a bite to eat during breaks in between games.
I was pleasantly surprised by the interior layout - there were plenty of tables, not just standard ones near the cafe, but also some raised 'islands' that looked really cool. Eating at the upper table was a nice touch, and I loved the circular light fixtures on the ceiling - they looked sleek and modern!
The cafe selection on the food court was pretty diverse: there were Russian, European, and Asian options, as well as fast food. The plates were cleared promptly, and the area was generally clean.
The food court has a direct exit to the outdoor patio with tables under umbrellas, which offers a great view of the esplanade from above, through the large glass railings. The atmosphere on the patio was pretty relaxed, especially on sunny days - it felt like a mini-vacation! However, I did notice some inconsiderate behavior from other patrons (people eating at tables and talking loudly, or littering).
On the 4th floor, there's a children's play area called Funkitown. I strolled through it, and it was beautifully designed. There were all sorts of attractions: carousels, arcade games, dinosaurs, and an active play area where kids can run around and play. I think kids, especially those under school age, would love it!
Walking around the same floor, I stumbled upon a Lego store with tons of built models on display in the windows and in the hall. They're so cool, I spent ages admiring them!
Also, I noticed an interactive movie studio, but I didn't go in.
On top of what I've already mentioned, a special train for kids runs around the 3rd floor, and I took a photo of the rules for riding it, just in case.
Next to the train, there's a toy store and a hobby hypermarket called Leonardo.
On the 2nd floor
I found a yummy marzipan shop called Marmalade Monsters. The marzipans are beautiful, but pricey - 200 rubles for 100 grams of any flavor, although I really enjoyed the taste and I'll definitely buy some again next time!
I was surprised to find that iMall is actually a lot of fun with kids, there's plenty to keep them occupied! The main thing for parents to keep in mind is not to break the bank.
The rest of the 1-2-3 floors are taken up by clothing, shoe, cosmetics, and accessory stores. The first floor has a few jewelry stores. iMall features a range of brands, including well-known ones like OSTIN, Reserved, Colin's, Milavitsa, Zarina, Золотое яблоко, Рандеву, СпортМастер, and others. More are set to open soon, including O'Hara coats.
PLUSSES of iMall:
Visitors to the mall were thin on the ground, although it was a hot and sunny Saturday – lots of people were out of town enjoying the summer. The toilets – there's one on each floor, and the ones in iMall are convenient and modern, although sometimes we ran out of essentials like soap and toilet seat covers. We did manage to get the soap sorted out during the day.iMall's got a real plus point – it's a lifesaver on the esplanade during the summer. The aircon works a treat, so you're not stuck sweating or shivering. It's a nice place to take a breather! And there are loads of comfy spots to chill out, too – benches, chairs, sofas, and even some nice little trees nearby. The interior design of the mall is seriously well thought out. Everywhere you look, there's top-notch modern lighting and some really nice chandeliers.Even the ads are nice to look at – like the one for Peremsky Perekrestok, where they've got a big bear – the symbol of the Perm region. All in all, I really enjoyed my time inside the mall!
MINUSES of iMall:
I have to say, I was a bit lost when I first walked into iMall. There's no internal map of the mall, just some signs near the elevators and escalators. It took me a bit to get my bearings and figure out where everything was.
One thing that stood out to me was the number of high-end stores that seemed to be duplicating what you can find in other malls in the area. The ceiling on the 4th floor is basically exposed, with visible ductwork and pipes. It's a bit industrial-looking and makes the space feel unfinished. I know it's not the most glamorous thing, but it would have been nice to see a more polished look, like in the bathrooms.iMall has some serious competition in the Perm area, with multiple other malls like Iceberg, Coliseum, and Petropavlovsky all within walking distance. I'm guessing that's why there are still so many unrented spaces in iMall.Honestly, I think the people of Perm would have been way happier if iMall had been built as an aquapark (which, incidentally, we still don't have in our city). That being said, iMall is a solid mall with plenty of space and modern amenities. Maybe it just needs a bit of TLC to make it shine.
