Hello!
I was surprised that my renovation took so long!
I'm sharing my experiences with materials (I've written about them in my "Miscellaneous" section), tips (check it out), and today I want to talk about baseboards.
When buying laminate flooring, get the baseboards at the same time. I bought from CRONA (check out my previous post).
I looked for a baseboard that matched my grey floor, but none of them did. They all had a "wood tone" color scheme. Then I thought, why not get a white, wide baseboard? It's on the ceiling, so why not on the floor?
I found ROYCE PВХ 80x2200mm (White Matte 318) at "Megastrue" for 265 rubles per unit.
I'm getting it!
The baseboard has all the information on the label. It's 2.2 meters long and 8 cm high.
For me, the longer and wider, the better. The manufacturer is from Russia, and the product code is on the back. I also saw these baseboards on "Ozoon", but I was hesitant to order from there because they might get damaged during shipping. At "Megastrue", I saw a few units with scratches.
I don't think Chinese baseboards are worse, though. There are baseboards made from natural wood, but they're way more expensive. The downside is that they're sensitive to moisture. I'm not planning to flood my floors, but it's nice to have a backup plan.To install the baseboards, you'll need a drill. My friend used liquid nails.
The baseboard itself is quite dense and of good quality.
It's worth noting that assembling these trim pieces can be a bit of a challenge, but the end result is well worth the effort.
As you can see from the photos, the trim pieces really make a big difference in the overall look of the room.
It's clear that the trim piece is designed to be installed separately, just like the corners. The photo shows a small section of laminate flooring, but unfortunately, there weren't any matching trim pieces available in the same color.
On the other hand, the white trim piece is a perfect match. What's more, these trim pieces can be painted to match any color scheme. Without the trim piece, the wall looks unfinished. But with the trim piece, it looks much better. The trim piece covers up any imperfections in the wall, including the seam. Here, the laminate flooring has a darker tone, so the white trim piece works perfectly. On the left, you can see the seam, and on the right, I've attached the first part of the trim piece. To be honest, it's not as easy as it looks.
First-time skirting board installers will have a tough time.
The battery's placement is the trickiest part, but I got it sorted perfectly. If I hadn't, I'd have had to cut – and that would've been a nightmare!
But if you're working with a private house and the radiators are properly installed, you won't have any issues.
Generally, if you're not dealing with cast-iron radiators and you do the installation when the heating's off, it'll be a lot easier. I usually do mine during winter, when you can't stay outside for long.
Is it worth buying a wide skirting board or following bloggers' advice and opting for a narrow one? I choose the WIDE one. It looks great, covers gaps and imperfections, and I recently used it on my balcony where I couldn't attach it to the insulation.
I'm glad I finally managed to attach all the skirting boards! Without them, my flat looked a bit rough around the edges. When we lay flooring and wallpaper, we always finish with skirting boards – it looks really nice.
What to do if you can't find the perfect color? Get the classic version and paint it yourself! The pros of 'Roy's' skirting boards:
They look great; Are esthetically pleasing;Hide imperfections;Look fantastic; Are easy to clean;Fit in with any decor;Have great quality; Can be painted; Are relatively easy to install.I also discovered that the price is pretty reasonable – I've seen skirting boards for 700, 1000, and 2500 rubles. I was shocked. Can people really afford to pay that much for something so simple? You can definitely do it on a budget and still make it look great.
And here are my other discoveries during the renovation:
I've gotta say, renovation's not exactly a quick process. And let's be honest, it can be pretty pricey too. But when you're itching for a aesthetic boost, what choice do you have?
I'm really happy with my choice of the ROYCE 80x2200mm PVC floor skirting. Both the quality and design won me over.
Rating: 5 out of 5.
