My Disappointing Experience with the Holly Polly SOS Panthenol Cherry Lip Balm

summarizeEditor's Summary

I've always been super picky about lip balms, especially during the harsh winter months when my lips get super dry. I've tried tons of different brands and formulas over the years, but this time around, I decided to mix things up and try the Holly Polly SOS Panthenol Cherry Lip Balm. Unfortunately, it didn't quite live up to the hype. The first thing I noticed was the weight – it's a bit heavier than I'm used to, but I guess that's okay. I'm not sure what to make of the fact that it's made in Russia, but that's not a deal-breaker for me. I applied it regularly, but the formula just didn't provide enough moisture for me – my lips still feel dry and chapped after applying it. It's not as long-lasting as I'd like, either – I find myself reapplying it every hour or so. The packaging is cute and compact, making it easy to toss into my purse or gym bag. The scent is nice and subtle, not too overpowering or artificial-tasting. It's got a decent amount of product in the tube, so it'll last me a while. The formula is smooth and non-greasy, which I appreciate. It's got a nice, subtle shine to it, which I like for everyday wear. The price is pretty reasonable, especially considering it's a brand I'd never tried before.

I've always had to take extra care of my lips, especially during the harsh winter months when the cold winds and scorching heaters dry them out. And in the summer, the sun's rays and warm breeze only make things worse.
Over the years, I've stuck to tried-and-true lip balms that keep my lips looking great, no matter what I'm wearing – even the most drying and matte lipsticks.
This time around, I decided to mix things up and try a new lip balm that's supposed to be a game-changer. But let's just say it didn't quite live up to the hype.
Holly Polly SOS Panthenol Cherry Lip Balm
Key Details:
Weight: 4.9 grams; it's a bit heavier than I'm used to, but I guess that's okay.
Country of Origin: Russia; I'm not sure what to make of that.
Price and Where to Buy: around 200 rubles in Golden Apple and on marketplaces; it's not a bad price, but I'm not sure if it's worth it.
Manufacturer's Claims:
Ingredients:
I'm not going to break down the ingredients, but let's just say I'm not impressed. A balm full of chemicals might work wonders on my lips, while a natural one might just sit there, looking pretty.
Packaging:
The balm comes in a bright red, hard-to-miss package that's pretty standard, but what's inside is where things get interesting.
The cardboard base has all the essential info, but I'm more interested in what's inside the package.
Design:The bottle itself is a deep plum color and has a slightly squished shape that reminds me of the popular Eat my lip balms.
I have to say, the stick is a bit larger than I'm used to, but since the balm is clear, I got the hang of using it without a mirror in no time.
Texture and color:The balm itself is thick and has a milky color, kind of like melted milk. It stays firm even in hot weather and doesn't get soft or runny.
I can apply it thinly or build it up to my liking.
Smell:And now, the best part - the smell is absolutely amazing!
It's not a natural berry scent, but rather a sweet, caramel-like aroma that's super pleasant and not at all chemically.
My impressions of the Holly Polly SOS Panthenol Cherry balm:
I've been using lip balms for years, and I've found that Karmex lip balms work wonders for me. I apply them 1-2 times a day, and my lips look great in any situation.
I've tried other lip balms in the past, but they've never impressed me like Karmex has.
Plus, during the summer, I swap out my matte lipsticks for glosses, which don't dry out my lips even if I don't moisturize them.
Application:
Since the balm is transparent, I can apply it on the go without even checking myself in the mirror.
It's not a thick application, and you can try layering it if you want, but I wouldn't recommend it.
The balm feels really strong on my lips even with a light application, and it causes discomfort. I've gotten used to something else, and I just don't like this feeling.
Effect:There's a slight shine right after application, but it's not particularly impressive.
I don't feel like it's doing anything for my lips. It just sits there until I eat something or drink from a cup, and then it's gone.
What's more, my lips feel drier after using it.
To be honest, it's the same effect I got from those awful Nivea lip balms that required me to reapply every hour to prevent my lips from cracking from dryness.
Verdict:This balm is completely useless, and it's got a pretty cool scent. It doesn't moisturize my lips at all, and regular use actually dries them out, so it's definitely not staying in my makeup bag.
2 stars and a thumbs down. Not recommended.
Thanks for reading, and see you in the next one!
