A Fun but Flawed History Magazine

summarizeEditor's Summary

I've been into history for years, and I gotta say, this magazine caught my eye back in 2014 when a professor recommended it for some light reading. The thing is, it's not exactly what I'd call scientifically informative. I love getting accurate and reliable information, but History Mysteries often presents info that's been taken from questionable websites. It's tough to trust info that's been sensationalized. I used it for a while, and while it's a decent history magazine, it's got its flaws.

A Fun but Flawed History Magazine
I've been into history for years, and I have to admit, this magazine caught my eye back in 2014 when a professor recommended it for some light reading.
Issues 4 and 6 - 2018 History Mysteries comes out once a week, and you can grab the latest issue at retail stores on Fridays for 6 hryvnias or subscribe by mail and save 30%.
Issue 50 - 2017 I'm not sure if I'd call this magazine scientifically informative, because I love getting accurate and reliable information, and History Mysteries often presents info that's been taken from questionable websites. Sometimes I'll read an article online, and then it'll pop up in the magazine a week later. It's tough to trust info that's been sensationalized.
What I Like About History Mysteries
My favorite section in the magazine is Historical Riddles - it's got some really interesting puzzles, like finding five inconsistencies in a picture, guessing the object from a description, or identifying a historical landmark. The correct answers are published in the next issue. The puzzles are engaging and challenging, making it a fun way to learn about history. The magazine also includes a crossword puzzle and a section with interesting and funny historical facts called Tales from the Past. Each issue has a variety of articles on various historical topics, from prehistoric societies to modern times.
However, I do have some concerns about the accuracy and reliability of the information presented in the magazine.
What I Don't Like About History Mysteries
The magazine often presents biased and fragmented information from unknown sources. The authors are pretty open about making fun of their subjects and using insults, which can be off-putting. The way the material is presented can feel like you're reading a tabloid. Some of the articles may be useless or not well-researched.
I think History Mysteries is a fun and engaging magazine, but it's not the most reliable source of information. I'd recommend it for light reading or as a way to learn about history in a more entertaining way.
If you're looking for accurate and reliable information, you might want to look elsewhere.
I've found that it's best not to take History Mysteries too seriously. I only buy it occasionally when I need something to kill time. Sometimes I find useful and interesting articles that I can use for work or school. And it's not a bad idea to stock up on some lighter reading for the history cabinet. I even give the not-so-great issues to my grandma - she reads them when she's got nothing else to do.
