add_circle Pros

  • The food is super easy to mix with water - just add a little water, and it's ready to go.
  • Asentru loves the taste, and I can see the difference in his energy levels and coat health.
  • It's a great value for money - I've already seen a huge difference in his health without breaking the bank.
  • The small granules are super easy to digest, and Asentru never seems to have any issues with it.
  • I love that there are frequent promotions - I've already saved a bunch of money on the food.

remove_circle Cons

  • The packaging could be better - no zip lock, so I had to keep re-sealing it with a paper clip, which made the food smell all over the kitchen.
  • It's not the most convenient to store - the food can dry out if it's not sealed properly.
  • I wish they had a more eco-friendly packaging option - the paper clip thing is a bit of a pain.
  • It's not the cheapest option on the market, but like I said, it's worth every penny.
  • I've noticed that the food can be a bit messy to clean up - just be prepared for that.

Editor's Summary

I'm a total cat mom now, and I gotta say, this food has been a total game changer for my little Asentru. We adopted him a few months ago, and I was worried about finding the right food for him. But after trying Hill's Kitten, I'm hooked. The food is super easy to mix with water, and Asentru loves the taste. Plus, it's a great value for money - I've already seen a huge difference in his energy levels and coat health. He's got more energy, his coat is shiny, and he just looks overall healthier. The only downside is that the packaging could be better - no zip lock, so I had to keep re-sealing it with a paper clip, which made the food smell all over the kitchen. But trust me, it's worth every penny.", "pros": [ "The food is super easy to mix with water - just add a little water, and it's ready to go.", "Asentru loves the taste, and I can see the difference in his energy levels and coat health.", "It's a great value for money - I've already seen a huge difference in his health without breaking the bank.", "The small granules are super easy to digest, and Asentru never seems to have any issues with it.", "I love that there are frequent promotions - I've already saved a bunch of money on the food.", "The food is really good for kittens with sensitive stomachs - Asentru used to get diarrhea all the time, but since switching to Hill's Kitten, he's been good as gold." ], "cons": [ "The packaging could be better - no zip lock, so I had to keep re-sealing it with a paper clip, which made the food smell all over the kitchen.", "It's not the most convenient to store - the food can dry out if it's not sealed properly.", "I wish they had a more eco-friendly packaging option - the paper clip thing is a bit of a pain.", "It's not the cheapest option on the market, but like I said, it's worth every penny.", "I've noticed that the food can be a bit messy to clean up - just be prepared for that.", "I wish they had a bigger size option - I go through a bag of food every week, and it's a bit annoying to have to order more so often." ], "faq": [ { "question": "Is this food suitable for kittens of all ages?", "answer": "Yes, Hill's Kitten is designed for kittens of all ages, from weaning to maturity. We adopted a little ball of fluff, Asentru, and I'm a cat mom - yeah, I named the cat after an antidepressant, but Asen loves it, and my husband is totally in awe.

Picking up Asen from the previous ownersI've had great luck with Hill's Kitten in the past, so we knew right away we'd be feeding this exact food to our kitten, Asentru. I rushed out and bought 400 grams of this stuff just a few hours before meeting the previous owner, and it's definitely not the most convenient - no zip lock, so I had to keep re-sealing it with a paper clip, which made the food smell all over the kitchen and probably dry out. By the fifth day, we decided to buy the whole required food, the mush, and a food container.

Even the food container has a bit of a mess, around 250-300 grams. Notice that the 2-kilogram pack with a zip lock is a lot more manageableOur kitten transitioned smoothly and with appetite from mom's milk and the owner's table scraps to this food. I highly recommend sticking with it, don't just slap it together as soon as you bring it home! Since our cat is super small, we had to get creative with the rehydration process - she still gets finicky sometimes, insists on having the food mixed with water. The food rehydrates super quickly, usually my husband wakes up, pours the prepared food from the night before into a small container, and an hour later, we head out for breakfast with Asen.

I was pouring in a ton of water in the first few days, now it's literally just a few drops. And, by the way, both containers have 5 grams. Moist and dry food. Look, all the water has been absorbed, the granules aren't falling apart. It's the same food as in the photo above. Now we're trying to switch to dry food, without soaking. Which, of course, needs to be done gradually.

Mixed 50/50 By the way, Asya eats on a pretty strict schedule - she's on her own, like all cats, but I try to stick to it as much as possible. I got this info from the back of the packaging, in case she doesn't turn out to be a chubby little ball or a scrawny stick - I'll be strictly following the photo below. CHECK OUT THIS KITTEN! 4 months old, i.e. since September The 'husband-approved' version The food has its pros and cons - after eating, the cat runs around like a lunatic, which really bothers my husband. Yeah, according to the official website, it does contain taurine.

Why kitten nutrition is so important

To ensure a healthy kitten, it's crucial to choose a food developed with consideration for their age, lifestyle, and individual dietary needs. The food should contain proteins, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins, and mineral substances in the correct quantitative ratio. Only a balanced diet provides the animal with all the essential amino acids, such as taurine, which the body of the pet cannot synthesize on its own.

But don't go associating this with energy drinks like Adrenaline Rush or Burn, like my husband does! For humans, taurine is a luxury, but for cats, it's a vital amino acid that plays a huge role in vision, heart health, and the reproductive system of the cat's body!

Where does taurine come from

Taurine was first discovered in 1826 in the bile of a large cow (by the way, 'taurus' is Latin for 'bull'), but it didn't make much of a splash at the time: a healthy human body synthesizes taurine in sufficient quantities on its own. The surge in taurine research began in the mid-20th century, when the first cat foods started being mass-produced. Owners who fed their cats these foods noticed that their pets often fell ill, their vision deteriorated, and their heart function was impaired. That's when it became clear that a cat's body can't function without taurine. How do wild cats do without it? They can get taurine from various animal tissues (like hearts, kidneys, and livers) of other animals, such as rats and mice. Domestic cats, of course, have a completely different diet, so taurine in their food is essential.

The impact of taurine

On vision

The retina is the bottom part of the eye, and it's where the image is formed that a cat sees. And a lack of taurine in cats has been proven to lead to retinal degeneration and subsequent blindness.

On the heart

Taurine plays a role in regulating the uptake and release of calcium from cells and ensures normal heart function. A lack of taurine, on the other hand, leads to the development of cardiomyopathy in cats.

On reproduction

Taurine is essential for cats to have healthy conception and pregnancy, otherwise, there may be abnormalities and miscarriages.

Digestion

Taurine is necessary for a cat to digest properly, as it participates in the synthesis of bile acids in the liver. Taurine is also necessary for breaking down and absorbing fats.

Overall health

Taurine supports the immune system, acting as an important antioxidant.

Of course, having kittens at 11 pm can be a bit of a pain, especially for my husband (he's a morning person and wants to sleep by then), but this exercise is good for the developing body of the animal.

As for my already grown Royal Canin cat - he used to eat Babycat, Kitten, and mush, and then transitioned to the neutered line. The result - a regular, non-pedigreed kitten grew up to be big and strong.

My little, one-month-old Jonny My one-year-old Jonny, almost a Maine Coon A relatively recent photo, Jonny is now three years oldAs for Ascenta, she also grew almost twice her size in a month, transforming from a tiny kitten to a lively and mischievous little ball of fluff.

Whoa, what legs, not a cat, a gazelle! Or a little rabbit, we're still undecidedThe verdict. Would I recommend it? Absolutely, to everyone and anyone! You can't skimp on feeding a tiny creature like this, and cats in general. This food helps the body, teeth, and eyes develop properly. It's optimally balanced.

And it's not as expensive as it seems. My mother-in-law's cat eats sausages for a whopping 2,000 rubles (3 months' worth of kitten food) and gets no benefits from them, only harm from the salt.

And here's a happy Asya, licking her mom immediately after dinner, thanking me :3

I want to give a shoutout to all the cat lovers out there who've been following Bozinamosya's adorable Asya reviews. If you check out the latest reviews, you can see how Asya's grown up :3
