My Hair Disaster: A Cautionary Tale of Salon Hacks

summarizeEditor's Summary

I tried to switch up my look by going back to my natural dark brown color, but it turned out to be a total disaster. I paid way too much for a stylist who didn't deliver. If you're thinking of trying a new look, do your research and choose a trusted stylist – it's worth taking the time. I ended up with a color that's basically the opposite of what I wanted, and it's been a nightmare to fix. I'm still dealing with the aftermath, and it's a hard lesson learned. I'm talking uneven color, weird highlights around my face, the whole nine yards. It's been a huge hassle to fix, and I'm still dealing with the consequences.

My Hair Disaster: A Cautionary Tale of Salon Hacks
Listen up, friends: if you're thinking of trying a new look, do your research and choose a trusted stylist. I've learned the hard way that it's always worth taking the time to find someone who knows what they're doing. I ended up paying another stylist to fix a mess that cost me way too much...
I've been a blonde for years, but I decided to go back to my natural color – dark brown – to mix things up. I found a salon near my work (it's just a 3-minute walk) and booked an appointment. I checked their work online, and everything looked great. The price wasn't cheap, but I thought, 'If it's expensive, it must be good.' I mean, I've heard that before, right?
I wanted a natural-looking dark brown with some subtle highlights around my face. I mean, how hard can that be? The stylist came over, and I explained what I wanted, showed her some photos. She assured me it would be perfect, and I trusted her – I'm not exactly a hair expert, so I didn't ask any questions. She worked on me for 5 hours, and I was exhausted by the time we finished. Before she even showed me the result, she curled my hair (although I asked her to straighten it with a flat iron). That's a rookie mistake, right? You should always check the color on straight hair, and then you can ask them to curl it.
So, I thought the result was okay, not exactly what I wanted, but it was something. But when I washed and straightened my hair the next day, I saw the real disaster. The color was uneven, and it had this weird yellow tint. I mean, is that a few highlights around my face? Yeah, and they're yellow...
I called the salon 'Versailles' (I won't mention the name of the other salon for personal reasons), and they were shocked when they saw my hair. I asked them to fix it, to dye it a darker shade, two tones darker than my natural color. I didn't want any highlights, just a smooth, one-tone color. They did a great job, and they even fixed my hair. After that, I'll only go to this salon. The atmosphere is great, you can even grab a cup of coffee while you're there, and the stylists are pros. I'd give them 5 stars without hesitation!
Four months later, I just got Botox (also at 'Versailles'). My dark color started to fade, and now I have a light brown color. I don't want to dye my hair again because it's in bad shape...
Girls, I need your advice. Should I go back to being a blonde or stick with being a brunette? Let me know in the comments...
Thanks for reading!
Looking back, I realize that I should've done more research on the stylist and the salon before booking an appointment. I should've asked more questions, like what kind of experience they had with coloring hair, and what their process was for achieving the desired results. I also should've been more specific about what I wanted, like asking for a color chart or a before-and-after photo of someone with a similar hair type and desired color.
And let's be real, I was in a rush to get my hair done, and I didn't take the time to carefully review the salon's work online. I just assumed that because they had a lot of good reviews, they must be good. But that's not always the case. A salon can have a lot of good reviews, but still have some bad apples working there.
So, to all my fellow girls out there, take it from me: do your research, choose a trusted stylist, and don't be afraid to ask questions. It's worth the extra effort to save your sanity and your wallet.
