Editor's Summary
I'll be honest, my experience with the Haier SMART TV S2 PRO has been a total disaster. I was really excited to replace my old Yandex TV, but this new one's given me nothing but trouble. The picture quality's nowhere near as good as I expected, and the interface is super slow. I'm not impressed with the build quality either - the colorful tape covering the screen was a major red flag. I thought I was getting a good deal, but it's been a total waste of money.
Specifications
I'll be honest, my experience with the Haier SMART TV S2 PRO has been a total disaster.
I was rocking a Yandex TV with Alice, and I loved it. It was super easy to use, and the picture quality was top-notch. But after a year and a half, it finally gave up on me, and the repair quote was almost as much as buying a new one.
So, I had to start looking for a new TV. I headed to MVideo and told them about my old TV and what I was looking for - something similar but more reliable. They recommended the Haier SMART TV S2 PRO, and I thought it was a good deal at around 30-35,000 rubles.
The box was huge and light, and I had to ask for help carrying it home. In the store, they showed me that it wasn't damaged, and I was all set.
Setting it up was a breeze - just attach the legs and plug it in. But when I got home, I was surprised to see that the screen was covered in this colorful tape. If I'd seen it in the store, I wouldn't have bought it - it looked like the screen was damaged.
The picture quality is just awful. It's blurry, grainy, and not very bright. It's like the pixels are huge or something. I tried adjusting the settings, but it didn't make a huge difference. Compared to my old Yandex TV, it's like night and day - this one is slow and unresponsive. I'll click a button and just wait for it to do something. And sometimes it just freezes up on me.
It's also super annoying because it forgets where I left off in the show. I have to go back and find the episode again. My kid can't even figure it out, and he was a pro with my old TV.
The sound is okay, I guess. Nothing special, but it's not bad either.
I can download apps, but I'm not really sure what's the point. It's got games, but they're way too slow. I just use Yandex, VK Video, and Google Search on it. I mean, it's supposed to be a smart TV, right?
But the worst part is this annoying pop-up window that keeps appearing in the corner of the screen. It's this 'Magical Advice' thing, and I have no idea how to turn it off. It's driving me crazy - every minute or so, it's there, and I have to keep hitting the remote to get rid of it.
The remote itself is also pretty finicky. Sometimes it just stops working, and I have to wait a few minutes for it to start again.
I'm not even sure if I could have returned it after I removed the tape and attached the legs. I thought about it, but I didn't want to deal with the hassle of shipping it back and paying 1,500 rubles for it. And who knows, maybe it would have been a nightmare to get it back.
Anyway, I'm keeping the TV, but it's just a constant disappointment. Every time I turn it on, I'm expecting something to go wrong. And sometimes it just freezes up on me, and I'm left staring at a black screen. I'm hoping it just breaks down and I can get it replaced under warranty. But until then, it's just a total letdown.
Honestly, I'm not even sure why I'm giving it one star. It's just been a complete waste of time and money.
