I've got a long-haired Chihuahua, and he's usually not picky about food. No allergy issues with him, so I don't have to worry about that.

When choosing a dog food, I usually just go by the ingredient list, kibble size, and the brand's reputation.

I was initially recommended Royal Canin by the breeder, but after trying it, I started to dig deeper into dog food and realized that Royal Canin is just a super popular brand that spends a lot on marketing, but doesn't actually put real meat in their food - they use dried animal proteins instead.

So, I started looking for a better dog food with a more natural composition. I considered different holistic brands, and Grandorf caught my eye.

I started with the Grandorf Lamb & Rice for Puppies, which I liked way more than Royal Canin in terms of ingredients. Yeah, it's pricier, but my dog is small - 3.3-3.2 kg - so I can afford to splurge on a good food to avoid vet visits.

Now that my dog is an adult, I switched to the Grandorf Lamb & Brown Rice for Mini Breeds, which has a similar composition.

I bought a 1 kg pack.

But what's concerning is that brown rice is the third ingredient, even though it's whole grain.

Carsbs are completely unnecessary for dogs, so I've had to switch my pup to a natural, ready-made meal from a Belarusian manufacturer called 'Sытый друг'. The ingredient list features beef and various offal, along with some veggies and herbs.

I had to do this because there isn't a single commercial dry food brand out there without grains, legumes, or potatoes, which are just cheap fillers and completely unnecessary for dogs.

I've recently started using the Grandorf Lamb & Brown Rice adult mini breeds for training my Chihuahua Eric, as it's one of the better commercial dog foods out there in terms of ingredients. That's why I'm giving it a high rating.

Also, if you don't have time to prepare homemade food on the go, or you're leaving your pet with relatives who don't want to deal with dog food, this is a great option.

I would recommend switching to raw meat, offal, and the like, though.

I'm not a fan of cooking, so I found a pre-made natural dog food that's easier for me.

But if you're a more diligent owner than I am, you can prepare and balance your dog's natural diet yourself.

I'm not a dietitian and I don't enjoy cooking even for myself, so I opted for pre-made natural dog food for my furry friend. I don't want to have to deal with treating my dog's liver after eating high-carb commercial dog food all the time.
