A Mixed Bag at the Glazunov Gallery - Not Kid-Friendly

summarizeEditor's Summary

I took my 7-year-old daughter to the Glazunov Gallery as part of the Museum, Parks, and Estates Olympiad. The program lets kids visit most museums for free, and they get a diploma and a badge at the end of the year. We chose this gallery because we'd never been there before, but I have to say, some of the paintings were not exactly kid-friendly. Glazunov's works are definitely eye-catching, but they might not be the best choice for young kids. The artist was active from 1930 to 2017, and his style is quite unique.

We took our daughter to the Glazunov Gallery as part of the Museum, Parks, and Estates Olympiad. She's in second grade, and the program lets kids visit most museums for free. At the end of the year, they get a diploma and a badge.
We chose the Glazunov Gallery because we'd never been there before. The artist, Glazunov, was active from 1930 to 2017.
The Olympiad is designed for kids like my daughter, so I was expecting a fun experience. But, I have to say, some of the paintings were not exactly kid-friendly.
My daughter was really curious about a painting with a severed baby's head. I didn't want to take a picture of it, but she asked me, 'Mom, why?'Most of the paintings are huge, taking up half the walls. They're definitely eye-catching.
There aren't many paintings on Orthodox themes or mocking politicians. I was expecting more of that.
Of course, there are plenty of half-naked bodies and some not-so-kid-friendly language. It's definitely not a place I'd recommend for kids.
But, there were some nice paintings too. My favorite is the one framed with a real tree.
And, who can forget Pushkin? There are plenty of paintings with battles and Russian history.
Girls in traditional dresses and fantastic heroes - these were some of the nice paintings.
Panoramas - these were really cool.
The Glazunov Gallery wasn't my favorite due to the 18+ content. Some paintings were nice, but it's not a place I'd recommend for kids.
