Vladivostok's Vibrant Beach: A Treasure Trove of Colorful Glass
I've been itching to share my thoughts on this incredible spot, and I'm not the only one who's stumbled upon it. Vladivostok's got a local favorite - Glass Bay - that's a hotspot for tourists, and for good reason. So, what makes this bay so special? Its unique coastline is literally covered in colorful glass pebbles, smoothed out by the sea. They shimmer and sparkle in the sunlight, giving off a precious gemstone effect.
There are only two beaches like this in the world. One's in California, USA, and the other's right here in Vladivostok. Now, if the California beach is all about clear glass, ours in Vladivostok is a colorful affair with green glass dominating the scene.
The locals are divided about the beach, with some loving it and others not so much. It's all because of rumors that it used to be a glass dumpsite, but nature's done its magic over the years, transforming it into a stunning spot.
The shoreline's like a treasure trove of colorful glass, sparkling like gems in the sunlight! You can spend hours walking along the beach, searching for the perfect piece of sea glass or ceramics to add to your collection.
Or you can take in the stunning views of the ocean, watch the ships barely visible on the horizon, or seagulls soaring above the dunes. The beach has free amenities like showers and restrooms, making it a great spot to spend the day.
You can rent a spot for a barbecue for a fee, or a guest house for around 1000 rubles per day. You can also rent a spot for a tent for 200 rubles per day. Some people drive right up to the beach, which is considered parking and costs 50 rubles. If you don't want to pay for parking, you can leave your car by the road.
There's a small café and a stall selling boiled corn on the cob (100 rubles per ear) right on the beach. I'd say the bay is pretty well-equipped, but I'd call it cozy if it weren't for the huge crowds of people trying to take in the natural wonder.
We went there a few times, and even on cloudy days, it's like they say - 'there's no place to fall.' People, tents, cars - it's a real spectacle. If you don't have a car, you can take bus number 26 from Lugovaya, which is a total game-changer. I paid 23 rubles to get there in August 2019, which is a steal considering a taxi would've cost me around 500 rubles.
I highly recommend visiting this place – it's guaranteed to leave you with some amazing new experiences and a ton of positive emotions!
One of the things that really stood out to me was the abundance of sea glass and ceramics scattered around the beach. I mean, you can find fragments of china with bits of its patterns still intact, even shards of tile and crystal!
The strong waves make it an exhilarating experience, and the water's surprisingly clean and warm, with a gradual depth that makes it perfect for swimming. Every day, the bay's a popular spot for locals and visitors alike to soak up the sun and enjoy the views.
It's not just locals who love this place – tourists, mostly from China, are also drawn to its unique natural beauty. They take photos to remember the experience, and I'm still trying to figure out why they collect huge bags of broken glass. I get that some sentimental people might want to take a single piece as a memento, but I just don't get why they need entire bags of it.
There's a sign nearby warning that taking glass off the beach is prohibited, but it's hard to resist the allure of this place. It's truly mesmerizing – sorting through the colorful glass, building little towers, it's almost meditative.
Tourists and beachgoers alike can be seen taking in the views, swimming in the ocean, and collecting sea glass and ceramics. It's a truly unique experience that's not to be missed.
So, if you're looking for a beach that's a little off the beaten path, but still offers all the amenities you need, then Glass Bay in Vladivostok is the perfect spot for you. Just be prepared for the crowds, and don't forget your camera to capture the stunning views and colorful glass.
