I recently tried the Glade Japanese Garden air freshener, and I've got to say, it's got a bit of an identity crisis going on. The packaging is sleek and rich, with a deep burgundy color that's reminiscent of a steamy Southeast Asian garden, but the scent itself is anything but delicate. In fact, it's downright overpowering, with a strong, sweet, and rich sandalwood aroma that's more like a tropical paradise than a tranquil Japanese garden.
I was a bit confused by the name, to be honest - I've tried other Glade air fresheners with similar names, but this one is definitely the most intense. But don't worry, it still delivers on its promise of eliminating odors and leaving a beautiful, woody, floral scent behind.

The packaging of the Japanese Garden air freshener is a real showstopper, with its rich, burgundy color and sleek design. But what really caught my attention was the scent - it's like stepping into a steamy Southeast Asian garden, with its evergreen sandalwood trees and lush greenery. It's a far cry from the delicate cherry blossom colors you might expect from a Japanese garden, but it's definitely a head-turner.
Looking at the back of the can, I noticed that it has all the necessary information about the deodorant, including the ingredients and safety precautions. It's great to see that the manufacturer has taken the time to include this information, so you can make an informed decision about whether or not to use the product.
The can holds 300ml of aerosol. It has a shelf life of 3 years from the date of manufacture (check the bottom of the can). ✔️ Since this is an aerosol can with propellants like butane, propane, and isobutane under pressure, it's essential to use it correctly to avoid any potential risks to your safety. Thankfully, the manufacturer has included all the necessary information for the buyer, including safety precautions and instructions for use.‼️BE CAREFUL‼️
Warning: this is a flammable aerosol. The can is under pressure. It may explode when heated, and it can cause eye irritation if it gets into your eyes. ‼️SAFETY PRECAUTIONS‼️
Safety precautions: use only as instructed in well-ventilated rooms. Don't disassemble and keep out of reach of kids! This is a pressurized can. Avoid spraying near fire or hot surfaces. Don't inhale the mist. Don't pierce or burn the can, even after use. No smoking while using. If the product gets in your eyes, flush with water. If you're sensitive to smells, use with caution. Ingredients:
Water, propellant (butane, propane, isobutane), >5%: n-PABA, phosphates, fragrance (benzyl alcohol, hexyl cinnamal, linalool, propylene glycol, ammonium hydroxide, alkyl C, dimethyl benzyl ammonium chloride)
Important allergen information
Potential allergen: contains linalool and butylphenyl methylpropanal. ☝️In short, the manufacturer's clear warnings about the product's composition and potential risks if not used properly are right on the can. The can also has some other markings on it:
Refurbished bottle The fragrance composition with essential oils, which are responsible for their presence in the composition, are two components of the composition: linalool - an organic substance that is the main component of many essential oils, including lavender, mint, and coriander, with a pleasant floral scent, and hexyl cinnamal - a floral fragrance with a scent reminiscent of rose. It is part of the composition of rose essential oil, but it can also be of synthetic origin. The presence of various essential oils in the composition of the air freshener and its description reveal the essence of the fragrance Japanese Garden:GLADE Japanese Garden aerosol air freshener eliminates unpleasant odors and instantly freshens the air, filling it with an unbeatable scent with notes of soothing sandalwood and morning flowers in the dew, which will transport you to a world of peace and balance. Use GLADE as the final touch after cleaning.
But let me be honest, this romantic and delicate description has nothing to do with the strong and pungent scent of the air freshener, and I'll tell you more about it later.
✔️USING THE AIR FRESHENER. WHERE, WHEN, AND HOW MUCH, and also about the 'true face' of the fragrance and why I buy this air freshener not for the first time.
All GLADE air fresheners have non-removable caps with an integrated and comfortable, slightly ribbed platform for pressing your finger and subsequent spraying of the product. The spray nozzle is fine-mist, capable of spraying the deodorizer strongly, yet accurately and effectively.
To prevent the deodorizer from soaking everything with its liquid composition, which is mostly water, I make sure to shake the can thoroughly before spraying, just like the manufacturer recommends in the usage instructions:
Usage instructions, dosage. Shake well before use. Point the nozzle at the center of the room and spray. I think the manufacturer overdid it with the advice to spray the deodorizer at the center of the room. In my opinion, this deodorizer is better suited for eliminating unpleasant odors than for adding a specific scent to your home. So, the best place to use it, considering the strong, heavy sandalwood smell and the rich colors, is the bathroom and toilet.
I think the true face of this deodorizer's scent is:
...it's overpowering, strong, yet sweet and rich, ruthless against unpleasant odors, mercilessly taking them down, and has nothing to do with the gentle freshness of a real Japanese garden...
Despite this, I've been friends with this deodorizer for quite some time now, and this is probably my third can (I sometimes switch to other deodorizers for short periods, then come back to this one).
Why do I keep coming back to it? The reason is simple: I have five adorable cats, all former strays, who are clean, sterilized, and know their 'business' in the general toilet.
I have to say, this air freshener is my go-to for tackling stinky smells, especially the heavy, woody scent of Japanese Garden. It's perfect for the bathroom, and here's why: ➕It kills those nasty odors in an instant and leaves a lovely, earthy aroma that's even a bit overpowering.
My only gripe is that it's not for everyone,
➖some people just can't stand the smell of this air freshener.
