Hello everyone!
Two weeks ago, my cat got sick. We didn't know what was wrong with him, so we took him to several clinics, but they all said he was healthy and didn't see anything wrong with him.
He's such an unusual cat - he loves it when you scratch his lips. One evening, he started growling at me when I touched his lower jaw, and I immediately suspected something was off. We spent a week going to the doctors, but nobody could tell us what was wrong. During that week, his condition got a lot worse.
He was lethargic, always lying down and looking sad.
It was clear that he really wanted to eat - he'd go to his bowl, sniff the food, and just sit there without eating. Then he stopped closing his mouth all the way. That's when we realized it was a problem with his teeth. We went to another clinic, and they gave us several possible diagnoses, but nobody could pinpoint the exact cause.
By that time, my cat's lower jaw had swollen up. They prescribed the following treatment:
-Stomorgil 1/2 tablet once a day.
-Rinsing his teeth and gums with two different solutions alternately.
-Ketoprofen once a day for 5 days. We were given ketoprofen in syringes as a painkiller at the clinic.
I have to admit, I was really worried about how I'd manage to rinse his mouth, because, let's face it, cats aren't exactly fond of getting treated. But that was the least of our worries! In this review, I want to tell you about Stomorgil tablets, which were the only thing that actually helped! And I want to share our experience, in case it might be helpful to someone else.
♥ Where to buy:You can buy it at veterinary pharmacies or clinics. It's best to use it as prescribed by a vet, as it's an antibiotic.
♥ Indications:
They prescribe it to animals (dogs and cats) for treating various infections in the oral cavity.
♥ Composition:Spiramycin - an antibiotic from the macrolide group, with bacteriostatic properties against a wide range of gram-positive bacteria and mycoplasmas. Metronidazole is active against gram-positive and gram-negative anaerobic microorganisms (particularly Bacteroides and Fusobacterium).
♥ Price:
We got four and a half tablets for free, but this medication is super pricey. Ten tablets cost around 1,000 rubles.
♥ Appearance:
The tablets are pretty large, bright pink, and have a ridge on one side. As it turned out later, the tablets themselves are white, and the pink is just the coating.
♥ Smell:Yes, yes, you think the tablets don't smell? They smell like crazy! I was literally suffocating when my cat's breath hit me with this awful smell, like fish or metal or something. Ugh, it was disgusting.
♥ Administration:
First, take a look at your cat's teeth. My cat's been a stray for a while, so his teeth are pretty worn down. But if they were originally the same size, you could see that one of his canines was even more chipped, and his jaw was swollen.
I decided to give him the first tablet by pouring ketaprofen into his mouth with a syringe. It went smoothly, so I thought I'd crush the tablet and do the same thing.I crushed half a tablet of Stomorgil in a spoon and mixed it with water. I filled the syringe and poured it into my cat's mouth. What a mess! My cat started foaming at the mouth like he was having a seizure, and everything started foaming in his mouth. I freaked out, grabbed my cat, and ran to the bathroom to rinse his mouth out. My cat was just as scared as I was. Luckily, it was just a scare, and we were fine.
I called the vet, and it turns out you can't crush Stomorgil, you have to give it whole. And then things got interesting...
Anyway, I've never given my cat whole tablets before. I went online, but there's hardly any information out there. But I did find a funny post about giving your cat a tablet (I recommend checking it out for a laugh).
Since my cat is pretty big, I did it like this.
I put him on the couch between my legs on his back, holding him down with my legs. Note that your legs might look like a war zone afterwards (mine do). Then I lift my lips up and open his mouth.
You shouldn't touch his tongue, or he'll start gagging. We need to put the tablet as far back on his tongue as possible, or he'll spit it out. Before that, you need to get a glass of water or some oil ready.
Once you've got your cat set up, you need to calm him down and pet him, then moisten the tablet in water or oil so it doesn't stick to his throat.
I'll be honest, getting my cat to swallow the tablet was a nightmare. You need to put it on the back of his tongue and then quickly close his mouth so he can't spit it out. When he swallows, you can let go. He'll be thrashing around, meowing, and making these crazy noises, but trust me, it's worth it. I had a hard time with this, and I saw him freaking out and getting scared, and sometimes even crying.
Once he's swallowed the tablet, he'll start licking his lips.
Now, give him a big ol' praise!
I didn't always get it right, though. One time, the tablet stuck to the roof of his mouth, and he went into a full-blown panic (he's usually super chill). Another time, I dropped the tablet off-center, and he ended up biting it and spitting out saliva everywhere. It was tough to watch, but I knew it was necessary.
♥ Effect:
The effect was way beyond my expectations!
Two days after giving him the tablet, he started eating normally – well, mostly normal, since he still only liked wet food (he's obsessed with it, but before, he couldn't even touch it). Three days later, he was back to his old self, pestering his feline friend like usual 😁Nine days after the treatment, he was happy and playful, inhaling food like a black hole, and even sleeping well – before, he was always drowsy.
The bad breath he had is gone, and now he smells fresh. We used to get used to the stinky breath, but it was a problem since he had bad teeth and heart issues, and we were worried he wouldn't handle anesthesia.
♥ Result:
I highly recommend Stomorgyl if you're dealing with dental or gum issues, but make sure to consult with your vet first. I deducted a point because it's super bitter – that's why the saliva was foaming so much. Still, it's a huge factor in how well the treatment works, and I think we should consider our furry friends' feelings, too.
Stomorgyl really delivered!
Now, our little guy is happy again! 😊
Thanks for sticking around! I hope my review is helpful!
