A Recipe for Disaster: How GAC Motor in Vologda Almost Killed My New Car's Engine

summarizeEditor's Summary

I recently had a terrifying experience at GAC Motor in Vologda, an official dealership that left me questioning the quality of their service. They almost killed my new car's engine during an inter-service servicing, which is a standard procedure for new cars on warranty. The entire ordeal was a recipe for disaster, and I'm still trying to process what went wrong. If you're considering taking your GAC to this service center, think twice – it's not worth the risk. I've owned a brand-new GAC GS8 for about six months now, and since there aren't any official dealerships in our city, we've been taking our car to GAC Motor in Vologda for servicing. The experience has been a total letdown, to say the least. The service center's lack of expertise and attention to detail is staggering, and it's clear they're not equipped to handle even the most basic maintenance tasks. The inter-service servicing took way longer than expected, leaving us stranded for hours. The cost of the service was exorbitant, especially considering the subpar work they did. The staff at GAC Motor in Vologda were unhelpful and unapologetic throughout the ordeal. The service center's return policy is non-existent, leaving us with no recourse. The experience has left me questioning the quality of GAC's customer support.

A Recipe for Disaster: How GAC Motor in Vologda Almost Killed My New Car's Engine
A word of warning to all GAC car owners!
I recently had a terrifying experience at GAC Motor in Vologda, an official dealership. If you're considering taking your GAC to this service center, think twice.
We've owned a brand-new GAC GS8 for about six months now, and since there aren't any official dealerships in our city, we've been taking our car to GAC Motor in Vologda for servicing. It's not a huge issue for us, as we often find ourselves in Vologda anyway, so we combine our servicing with other errands.
We recently booked an inter-service servicing (10,000 km) at GAC Motor. This is a standard procedure for new cars on warranty, and it usually takes around 1.5 to 2 hours. During this time, the car is thoroughly inspected, and all its major systems are checked, including fuel, brakes, cooling, ventilation, and so on. The car owner has to pay for this, and the cost depends on the car brand, model, mileage, type of work, and other factors.
So, we arrived on time and handed over our car. We spent about 1.5 hours in the waiting room, which was completely unoriented towards customer comfort. I've had a lot of experience visiting car dealerships, and I have something to compare it to.
No free Wi-Fi, no charging stations, and no decent cafe or kids' corner – it's a far cry from what we're used to. I mean, every single car service we've been to in the past had all that.
But I'm a prepared person, so we brought everything we needed to keep the kids entertained – we were traveling as a family, after all. After the service, we had plenty of other plans.
Half an hour later, we got our car back. We paid up and collected our order slip.
We got the car all warmed up, got in, and hit the road.
About 15 minutes into our drive, my husband spotted the oil light on the dashboard. That was a major red flag. We pulled over at the next turnoff, which was a blessing – it was a narrow road, and not every spot had a shoulder.
My husband was driving, and he immediately popped the hood to check the oil level.
What we saw was a bit of a shock. There was no oil filler cap under the hood, and we found a pair of used work gloves lying around. But that was just the tip of the iceberg.
We were in shock!!! There was no oil whatsoever!
I'm still trying to process the horror we felt. As car enthusiasts, we know that without oil, the engine is toast – at best, it's a matter of minutes before it's ruined.
We had no idea when the oil light came on, since it's so small. We have no idea how long we drove with a dry engine.
We took a photo of our car stranded on a freezing road, with two little kids in the backseat. The car was rapidly losing heat.
And then we headed to the official dealership for the repair, Karl!
We weren't messing around - we took our car to the officials, not some shady garage.
My husband immediately got in touch with the manager, who sent over a so-called 'mechanic'. While we waited, all sorts of worst-case scenarios ran through my head. We had no idea what this guy had done: maybe he forgot to tighten the filters, or maybe he even stripped the threads. And as for the engine, I didn't even want to think about it, because when we opened the doors, we could smell the acrid stench of burnt oil seeping from underneath the car.
The 'mechanic' got under the car and, it turned out, he hadn't even removed the old rubber gasket from the filter - he just slapped a new one on. I mean, what's the point of calling him a mechanic if he doesn't even know the basics? And to make matters worse, he showed up without the necessary parts and started making phone calls to get them.
It took us a couple of hours to sort everything out. While we waited, the car cooled down, and I asked if I could move the kids to the back seat with me.
After refilling the oil, we headed back to the dealership to report the issue and get it fixed. We didn't know what could happen to the engine after this incident - it might not overheat at all, or it might seize at any moment. Plus, we were driving at high speeds on the highway.
I took photos and videos just in case we needed to take further action in court.
All our plans were ruined, and we lost valuable time and money that day. Can you imagine if the oil leak had been a slow drip, and we'd broken down in the middle of nowhere, hundreds of miles from home?
We're still waiting to hear back from the dealership about our complaint.
Despite the chaos, the service staff didn't even offer us a cup of hot tea - so I ended up asking for one myself!
To be honest, the thought of how they might be performing routine maintenance makes me nervous. I mean, they should be checking all the critical systems, right?
Even if the oil leak hadn't been an issue, I wonder when we would have discovered the missing trim piece under the hood. Do you often open the hood of a new car? We don't - that's why we buy new cars, to avoid getting our hands dirty under the hood.
Be careful, folks, even with official dealerships.
We've had the worst experience with GAC Motor (OOO Marten).
I'd give them zero stars if I could. Don't even think about dealing with them.
