Hello!
It's been six months since my cat's condition relapsed, and blood in his urine came back. I took him to the vet for more tests and ultrasounds, and the vet prescribed treatment. In this review, I'll share my experience with the Furinad medication and its effectiveness in treating feline interstitial cystitis.
Furinaid reviews π± GENERAL INFORMATION
Furinaid (Furinaid) for cats (treatment of the urinary system)Volume β 150 mlExpiration date β 3 yearsManufacturer β IrelandPrice | Where to buy? When I was looking for this medication, I couldn't find it on PetShop. On the 4paws website, the 150ml bottle cost 3000 rubles. Now the price on this website has risen to 3539 rubles. If you search online, you can find it on other websites (like Ozon) for 2300 rubles (thanks to discounts from some sellers), which is still not cheap, but at least not over 3k I found the cheapest price on the Yandex Market website. At the time, the price was 2300 rubles, but with my discounts (from my "Plus" subscription) and a promo code for my first order, the medication cost me just 1584 rubles. There's nowhere cheaper, as the price on this medication is around 2k on every other website, and I even saw it for 5k (which is just ridiculous...)
Furinaid price π± COMPOSITION / DESCRIPTION
The medication comes without a separate instruction, so all the information is on the packaging:
Furinaid InstructionsThis supplement is designed to help treat and prevent urinary tract issues in cats. Feline Idiopathic Cystitis (FIC) is a common problem that affects around 65% of spayed or neutered cats. It's characterized by cystitis symptoms without any signs of bacterial infection, and the symptoms are similar to those experienced by humans, who suffer from inflammation of the bladder with fibrosis. Research has shown that FIC may be linked to changes in the protective glycosaminoglycan layer in the bladder. Furinaid is an oral supplement for cats that contains glycosaminoglycan N-acetyl in a convenient liquid form. Taking the supplement daily can naturally support the level of glycosaminoglycan in the bladder lining.

π± PACKAGING / COLOR / SMELL
The bottle has a vacuum dispenser. To get the contents out normally, you need to press the button for a while the first few times. I was lucky, it worked for me initially, but then I encountered a blockage and no matter how many times I pressed the button, it just produced some foamy stuff. I even thought it might be a defective product. But after a while (and a lot of button presses), the supplement started coming out as it should, and I didn't experience any issues.
Don't worry if your supplement doesn't come out when you press the button - it's a common issue with vacuum dispensers, just be patient!
Furinaid for CatsThe color is a brown liquid with a meaty smell (as mentioned on the packaging, I didn't have to sniff it to figure that out).xa0
π± WHAT IT'S FOR / SYMPTOMS / DOSAGE
I've got a confirmed diagnosis for my cat - idiopathic cystitis. The urine test showed high levels of protein, and the ultrasound scan revealed some crystals in the abdominal cavity. This is the second time it's happened in six months, and I've been feeding my cat a special dietetic food called Hills urinary stress since then, but it hasn't been effective in preventing the symptoms from coming back.
Ultrasound scan:

Furinaid treatment for the urinary systemAfter the tests, my cat was prescribed a treatment plan that included Furinaid, as well as another medication called Stop Cystitis Bio.
Furinaid prescriptionMy vet instructed me to give Furinaid to my cat in two doses a day for 14 days. Each dose is one press on the dosator (1.25 ml) for the first dose, and two presses (2.5 ml) for the second dose.
One dose - one press on the dosator (1.25 ml). Two doses - two presses on the dosator (2.5 ml).xa0
According to the theory, this treatment (in combination with the other medication) should have alleviated the unpleasant symptoms (my cat wasn't experiencing frequent urination, but there was blood in the urine already).

My Cat's Reaction to Furinaid / Treatment Results
I decided to mix Furinaid with my cat's wet food, as I didn't see the point in forcing the medication down its throat. The treatment was supposed to help alleviate the symptoms, but it didn't quite work as expected.
Furinad for Cats Reviews I've also struggled with urinary stress in my cats, and this dry food just wasn't cutting it. The photo doesn't really show the medication itself, but it's a brown color, so you can't really see it. Luckily, my cat didn't seem to notice and ate the whole serving without issue. I think the flavor is definitely meat-based, since my cat had no problem eating it.
As for effectiveness, I'll remind you that I was giving my cat two medications at once - Furinad and Stop Cystit BIO. It would be hard to pinpoint the effectiveness of just one medication if it weren't for one key thing.
Furinad Reviews The effect kicked in pretty quickly, and my cat's urine turned a normal yellow color. But how can you be sure it was just Furinad that did the trick, and not the other medication or the combination of both? It's actually pretty simple. I stopped giving both medications after two weeks, and the next day, the blood in the urine was back! I'd run out of Stop Cystit BIO (since it was a 2-week supply), but I still had plenty of Furinad left. And according to the instructions on the box, you're only supposed to give 1 serving per day after the first 14 days, anyway. So I started giving my cat just 1 serving of Furinad per day, and it seemed to do the trick again.
It took a bit longer to kick in this time, but after about a week, the urine was back to normal.
I've been giving my cat Furinad for another two weeks, which means I've been using it for a month now (two weeks with two presses of Furinad + Stop Cystitis Bio and another two weeks with one press of Furinad).
And that's when my cat's urine turned yellow again, but the effect still holds, even though I've been off the medication for two weeks now.

From my experience, there's only one conclusion to draw: Furinad definitely helped! But Stop Cystitis Bio wasn't very effective, or maybe it only works in combination. And just to remind you, my cat's diet is a stress-reducing diet from Hills.
Furinad reviewsWhat's more, I didn't notice any issues with my cat's stool during treatment, and there was no allergic reaction either. My cat behaved as usual.xa0
π± CONCLUSION
Furinad is a pretty effective medication, but the effect takes time to kick in. While I was using a combination of treatments, my cat didn't show any symptoms of cystitis. As soon as I stopped treatment, the blood in my cat's urine came back. I've since started giving Furinad again (in a preventive dose) and it's eliminated the symptoms (it took a month of treatment, and so far, everything's fine - two weeks without medication and no blood in the urine).
I'm glad the cost is very economical, and this bottle should last us at least one more relapse (or maybe even two or three).
Initially, I was planning to give it three stars, as the effect was ambiguous (it helped at first, then the symptoms came back, and I had to prolong treatment, and the result is holding for now, but who knows what will happen next). In the end, I decided to give it four stars, as there is an effect, and my cat is currently healthy (two weeks without medication and everything's fine) + the cost of the medication is justified (the bottle will last a long time, covering several treatments or preventatives). By the way, I needed three bottles of Stop Cystitis Bio (and if the first one I ordered was discounted for 230 rubles, the rest cost me 400 rubles on PetShop - and that's just for two weeks of treatment, while Furinad will last much longer).

β
Pros:
My cat loves itNo negative reactions (no allergies or digestive issues)Easy to give (mixes well with food)Convenient dosing (two clicks for the first two weeks, then one)Economical use (and a large bottle)And it actually worked - my cat stopped urinating bloodβ Cons:
After completing the main treatment (two weeks as prescribed by the vet), symptoms came back, so I had to extend the treatment with one Furinad (as instructed). The effect eventually kicked in, but I was hoping for a faster recovery (thinking I'd be able to cure my cat sooner)
Furinad for catsThanks for reading. And remember, it's all individual!
