I took my kids to the New Year's show at the Vorbeyevy Gory Vocational School last year, and we ended up going twice because the tickets are completely free and there's no limit on how many times you can attend. All you need to do is reserve your tickets for a specific date, time, and number of kids, and then pick up your invitations at the main entrance of the Palace of Pioneers. They've got plenty of tickets available, and they usually start giving them out even before the shows start. You can grab them on the first floor of the main entrance - just look for the signs.
We went to the show for the youngest and oldest kids, and the reactions were polar opposites. The little ones were totally thrilled and crying in the coat check because they didn't want to leave, while the older kids were rolling their eyes and saying they'd never go back. I have to admit, I was with them on that - the show for the little ones was top-notch. It was a fun, engaging, and easy-to-follow story that was perfect for their age group. It wasn't anything special, but it was exactly what we needed. And the best part? It's free, so we didn't lose any money. Plus, the tickets are easy to reserve, which is a big plus in my book.
The entertainment program was just as fun. It starts an hour before the show, and the little ones were totally enthralled by all the games, contests, installations, songs, dances, and toys in the play area. It was even more fun than the show itself! By the way, all of this is closed down after the show and during it too, probably so people don't stick around too long and block the foyer. I have to say, the play area was a real highlight of the whole experience.
The older kids, on the other hand, wandered around, found nothing interesting, and headed off to the cafeteria for lunch. The cafeteria, by the way, is amazing. If I lived nearby, I'd eat there all the time and not bother cooking at home. The meal is a great value for the price - 200 rubles per person. I'm guessing someone's subsidizing the meals because the food is definitely worth more than that. I mean, the portions are huge, and the quality is top-notch.
So, I'm definitely taking my younger kids back to the Palace of Pioneers next year, even if the show is a total letdown. The rest of the experience is definitely worth it. And hey, it's not like we lost any money, right? The whole experience is just a great value for what you get.
