I was on a mission to deck out my house with something bright, unique, and made with my own hands before the holidays. It was the perfect opportunity to spend quality time with my son doing something fun and creative together.
We scoured the web for tutorials, got inspired, and brainstormed ideas. First up, we decided to make some three-dimensional figurines. One of the main materials we chose for our project was Foamiran with glitter.
Let's break down what Foamiran is. It's a decorative material based on ethylene-vinyl acetate, sold as colorful, soft, porous sheets, and used in various craft forms. If I had to describe it in my own words, it's like colored paper, but the texture and material are far from paper. Foamiran is a soft, porous material that's similar to inflated rubber, or what some people call 'plastic leather'. It's easy to bend, takes any shape, doesn't stretch much, and becomes convex when heated. You can use it to make flowers, leaves, the base for hair clips, New Year's decorations, and tons of other things.
Foamiran with glitter is the same material, but one side is coated with glitter. I ordered a pack of green Foamiran and a pack of multicolored.

The color palette is wide, with 10 different colors in the pack. I used a few sheets of Foamiran for my crafts, and here's not the entire set.
There are scraps of white, bright red, and blue left over, but it'll be visible in my next craft photos.
Sheet thickness is 2 mm. It's pretty thick.
But it's still easy to work with. Foamiran cuts easily with scissors. The areas where you need to cut are marked in advance on the back side.
The reverse side of the sheets is porous - it's like it's covered in tiny air bubbles.
I also want to mention that the reverse side is the exact same color as the sheet itself, just not shiny. Individual shiny spots are left from the sheets they came into contact with. That is, the Foiliran blisters don't come off much, it's not critical, and it doesn't affect the finished product's appearance. But you should be prepared for the fact that all hands, tables, or surfaces you'll be working on will be shiny and sparkling.
Upon closer inspection, the Foiliran sheets have a layer of shiny spots applied to them. The layer is even, but the individual blisters come in different sizes, like tiny particles.
My first project was called 'Month on a Stand'. I got the idea from crafters who searched for 'Foiliran crafts' online.
I won't go into detail about how to make this project, but I'll say that you'll need a lot of different materials, although they're all interchangeable. It depends a lot on what you have at home and your imagination. You'll also need a hot glue gun and glue sticks.
Foamiran glues well with this gun, and it doesn't melt from the hot glue.
My son only had the patience for this one project, and then his interest and enthusiasm wore off. On the other hand, I got more ideas, and I wanted to make something more original.
My next project was called 'Christmas Tree on Legs', or 'Toppling Christmas Tree', but it really depends on your imagination. Mom said it was some girl, and Dad said it was a gnomie.
In this Foiliran project, I made little boots for the Christmas tree.
The little boots' front side shows off how Foiliran is flexible, like LEGO, and can take on the desired shape. Of course, everything is fixed in place with heat glue.
The Christmas tree's ribbon is also made of Foiliran.
I also had to buy a meter of felt and a pack of white pom-poms.
And finally, my last project was more labor-intensive, and it's not entirely made of Foiliran, but it still came in handy.
I made an ornament using silver wire. It's a pretty simple design, but it turned out really well.
The base of the ornament is made from white foam board, which I think is a great choice - it's got a really snowy, wintery feel to it.
I posted some of my other crafts in a local chat group, and I mentioned that I thought the cost was pretty reasonable. I sold the ornament on the first day, and then a few days later, I sold the 'ornament on a stand' too. I won't go into the specifics of how much I sold them for, but let's just say that the cost of the materials was well worth it, and I even made a bit of a profit.
