We showed up, waited 1.5 hours for the therapist, and were blown away by how incompetent she was. The doctor didn't even examine my kitten, just listened to our story, said she didn't know how to prep for the surgery, and started googling the meds another clinic had recommended. She suggested we get an X-ray to see if the stones had passed and talk to a surgeon about prepping for surgery.
After another 30 minutes of waiting, a resident doctor finally showed up. She seemed put off, lectured us on the surgery options, and then the complexity of the procedure. She ended by saying she didn't get why we came to Fillmore, since the surgery was super complicated and few could do it. She suggested we just go back to the clinic where they initially diagnosed my kitten.
When we expressed our frustration that we'd specifically asked about emergency surgery over the phone, she said they couldn't have told us otherwise. We brought in an administrator, who revealed that we'd been totally misunderstood over the phone. They did have a surgeon who could do the procedure, but she'd be available the next morning. When we asked what we should do, they sent us back to another clinic.
When we asked if we could at least keep my kitten in their hospital, they said we had to be in the clinic where the surgery would happen. We suggested leaving my kitten and having their surgeon come the next day to examine him and decide if they could do the surgery. They said their surgeon was super busy and it was unclear if she'd even have time to see my kitten.
The on-call surgeon never even bothered to come talk to us!
After we complained, they agreed to let us leave my kitten and said the therapist would recommend a hospital stay. We were on edge, since the therapist had explicitly said she didn't know what to prescribe, but we decided to wait and see what she'd say. However, after 40 minutes, she still hadn't returned (according to the administration, she was 'consulting'). We were forced to leave.
We were shocked by the complete lack of communication and coordination at Fillmore Clinic. The therapist's incompetence and the resident doctor's dismissive attitude made us feel like we were being sent from one person to another without any real solution or plan. The fact that they couldn't even give us a clear answer about whether they could do the surgery or not was super frustrating and worrying.
We were also disappointed by the complete lack of empathy and understanding from the staff. They seemed more interested in sending us back to another clinic than in helping us find a solution. The fact that they couldn't even offer a hospital stay for my kitten, despite knowing he was unstable, was a major red flag.
We left Fillmore Clinic feeling frustrated, worried, and disappointed. We had high hopes for their emergency surgery services, but they completely failed to deliver. If you're looking for a clinic that can provide competent and compassionate care, I would not recommend Fillmore Clinic.
