I'm still on cloud nine after our family trip to Adygea, a stunning republic in southern Russia. We visited almost a year ago in the fall of 2024, and the memories are still fresh in my mind. Of course, it's mainly because of the thrilling cable car ride, which I wrote about in my review of the Savranskaya cable car! That experience is hard to forget.
This is the view from the top of the cable car:
View from the top of the Savranskaya cable carThe views are simply stunning, and everything's great, except for those open seats with no safety belts – I was terrified of falling out, especially since I fainted on a cable car in Arkhyz before. Here are those 'bench-seats':
Savranskaya cable car AdygeaOur goal was to reach the Devil's Finger rock, which is pretty hard to climb on foot, and we'd already tried and failed when our son was younger. So this time, we decided to take the cable car instead. In retrospect, it would've been better to hike up.The upper station of the cable car is nicely set up for taking photos.
The Road to the Devil's Finger in AdygeaThe views are absolutely breathtaking. Panoramic views of AdygeaThere are signposts, so getting lost is unlikely. And with plenty of tourists around, you can just follow them.As we drove, we turned off to visit the Wish Cave:
Wish Cave in AdygeaIt's a grotto in the rock face, which you can walk through and make a wish by tying a ribbon to the fence. Wish Cave in AdygeaYou can buy ribbons on the spot. It's pitch black in the grotto, so the photo didn't turn out great:Wish Cave in AdygeaThere are so many ribbons that it's hard to count them all! I even had to find a spot to tie mine.Next, we headed to the Devil's Finger through the forest, taking in the views of the trees and foliage.
The Road to Devil's Finger Rock in Adygea I'm always blown away by the forests in Adygea. There's just so much lush greenery, moss, and a variety of plants. The Road to Devil's Finger Rock in Adygea Our steppes in Rostov Oblast are dry and hot, but here it's all about the greenery and moisture! The Road to Devil's Finger Rock in Adygea We even spotted a snake on the way - what a lovely creature! The Road to Devil's Finger Rock in Adygea It took us about 50-55 minutes to get to the rock. The Road to Devil's Finger Rock in Adygea The path is pretty easy to follow, with a clear trail and signposts. The Road to Devil's Finger Rock in Adygea And of course, fellow tourists won't let you get lost anyway) The Road to Devil's Finger in AdygeaAs I made my way, the outlines of the rock started to take shape. The Road to Devil's Finger in AdygeaAnd there it is - Devil's Finger: Devil's Finger in AdygeaIt looks pretty unique, if I'm being honest! I've been traveling for a while now, and I'm constantly amazed by the incredible things nature can do. Take the Ring Mountain in Kislovodsk, for example - the rain and wind have eroded the rock to create a ring with a hole in the middle. There are countless wonders like this in the world, and I'm still discovering them! Devil's Finger in AdygeaPeople climb up to the rock, take photos, and even form a small queue. But I was happy to stick with the cable car - no need to overexert myself!Devil's Finger is located on the ridge of the Ura-Koz mountain range, which stretches along the coast of the Belaya River from the village of Kamennomostskiy to the stanitsa of Dakhovskaya.
Devil's Finger is a sheer rock face that looks like a stretched-out finger pointing towards the sky.
Its distinctive shape earned it this memorable name.
The rock is approximately 20 meters tall and only a few meters wide.
This natural wonder was formed through tectonic processes and the relentless impact of wind and water on the rock face.
The views are absolutely stunning:
Panoramic views of Adygea Devil's Finger I'm constantly blown away by the grandeur and endlessness of nature! Adygea is a real treat.
We decided to hike down to Dakhovskaya village on foot, passing up the cable car despite having tickets for both ways. We just gave them to other people who were waiting.
Views of Devil's Finger Rock in Adygea The hike took around 2 hours, with some parts of the trail winding through a lush green forest and others through tall grass that came up to our waist. The trail to Devil's Finger Rock in Adygea The trail was tough, with some slippery pebbles (called 'syphka' in Russian) that made it difficult to walk. I highly recommend wearing hiking boots with good tread and trekking poles if you're planning to tackle this hike. The trail down We were all pretty exhausted by the end of it, but for me, it was definitely worth it. My husband and son, on the other hand, loved every minute of it and were happy to have had the opportunity to stretch their legs.
In the end, we were all happy with our decision to hike down and explore the area. I highly recommend Devil's Finger Rock in Adygea to anyone who loves adventure and the great outdoors. The rock itself is pretty unique, and the scenery is just stunning. I hope you get to experience it for yourself someday!
