Hello fellow parents!
I stumbled upon these adorable Ezhulka books just before last year's New Year's, and I thought they'd make a great gift for my friend's kid. Plus, the price was unbeatable - under 200 rubles. I ended up buying them for my own child too, and this year I bought them again as a gift.

With the New Year just around the corner, there's hardly any time left for holiday preparations. And to make things worse, Grandfather Funduk fell ill! Ezhulka, Hare, Bunny, Fox, Badger, and the mice decided to visit their ailing grandfather with treats and New Year's gifts. As they chatted, sipped hot chocolate, and munched on cookies, time flew by unnoticed. Meanwhile, a snowstorm raged outside... Will their friends make it home for New Year's after all their adventures? This heartwarming and touching tale is about bravery, quick thinking, and caring for loved ones.

Design
I was immediately drawn to the book's colorful and ridiculously adorable design. It's a big format, roughly the size of an album leaf.
The cover is sturdy, and the book spines are done in a uniform style, so they'll look great on a bookshelf together like a little collection.
Ezhulka Book Series by M. Christina Battler The pages are printed on nice, thick paper. It's not glossy, but it won't tear easily, even in the hands of a bit clumsy kid.
Book "How Ezhulka and His Friends Didn't Miss the New Year" by M. Christina Battler Like most books from this publisher, the binding isn't super neat - some pages seem slightly stuck together, so you might need to press them or gently pull them apart.

Illustrations take up a big chunk of the pages - probably around 70-80%. And I've got to say, they're a real treat for the eyes. The style is watercolor, with all the colors being super calm and gentle, not too bright or overpowering. The animals are drawn in a super realistic way (as realistic as it gets in a kids' story, where the animals are a bit more human-like), in proportion, and pretty to look at.
The illustrations were done by Tina McNorton

Text is scattered throughout, mostly on the parts of the page that aren't taken up by the illustrations. Although sometimes it's not placed too well, blending in with the background. The sentences are short but not too short. The font is simple and big, making it easy for older kids to read on their own.

📚 First Impressions
I was really impressed by this book - and it's all thanks to the incredibly gentle and kind illustrations, plus the super straightforward storyline. So, the Ezhulka stories not only made great gifts, but my son also bought them for himself. At the time, he was around 2.5 years old.
Unfortunately, animal stories aren't our top books, so after listening to them a couple of times, he completely forgot about Ezhulka and left it on the shelf. I tried going back to it a few times, but he just wasn't interested.
BOOK "HOW EJHULKA AND HIS FRIENDS DIDN'T MISS NEW YEAR" BY M. KRISTINA BATTLERBut come the next New Year, these books gained some popularity again, and now we really enjoy reading them, listening carefully to the adventures of the little animals. Our collection has even grown to three books now.
BOOK "HOW EJHULKA AND HIS FRIENDS DIDN'T MISS NEW YEAR" BY M. KRISTINA BATTLERThe storyline is simple and easy to follow for a kid: first, the little animals do a good deed and help a lamb, and then they escape a snow avalanche and make their way back home. I think it's a great example of good deeds, teamwork, helping others, and quick thinking. The only thing I had to explain was what a snow avalanche is.
A Book That's Perfect for the New Year: 'How Ezhulka and His Friends Didn't Miss the New Year' by M. Kristina Butler Build quality is also a winner, aside from the slightly sloppy binding, which has become a hallmark for Clever Publishing. I don't see any other flaws in the design. And the illustrations? They're just delightful – all the animals are instantly recognizable, yet not at all simplistic.

Takeaways
This book is a great choice for kids, with its large format, thick paper, and big font making it easy to read. The beautiful, easy-to-understand illustrations are a real treat for the eyes. The storyline is simple and teaches the value of helping others. And the best part? It's affordable!
