Hello everyone!
I've been on the lookout for ways to keep my kids entertained during the long winter holidays, and this year I wanted to show them how a seed turns into a plant. So, I picked up the Euryka 'Ptašky. Growing Grass' Experiment Kit. I've got two kids, so I bought two kits, of course.
Today, I'm excited to share my experience with the kit and our results. Let's dive in!

The Euryka Ptašky Experiment Kit is a great way to introduce your child to the world of botany. It's an animal-shaped pot and some decorative grass seeds that'll keep kids engaged and show them the magic of seed germination.
Packaging:
The kit comes in a small cardboard box with a really eye-catching design. The packaging features the same ptaška character.
The bottom of the box has some info from the manufacturer.
The packaging was wrapped in a protective coating.
What's inside?
The package included a pot with soil in the shape of a bird, two seed packets, and an instruction manual on how to plant.
The bird-shaped pots were additionally wrapped in a separate package.
The pots were wrapped in aluminum foil to prevent the soil from spilling out.
It's easy to open - I just poked a hole and tore off the foil.
Seeds:
There are two seed packets in one set. Their packaging is identical, but when we opened them, we found out that the seeds in one set are different. That's even more interesting - what will we grow?
Soil Mix:
I'm clueless about gardening, but this stuff looks like a mix of dirt, wood shavings, and who-knows-what. There's a lot of it, too - just enough to fill the little birdhouse, leaving about an inch of space.
Assembly:
Getting the seeds planted wasn't too tricky - there's a small instruction sheet. My 6-year-old and 3-year-old were able to handle it with a little supervision.
I just opened the seed packets for them and gently pushed aside the top layer of soil. They did the rest - pouring the seeds into the birdhouse themselves.
To make it easier, I filled a toy watering can with water for them. No issues with watering, either.
After watering, the soil mix did rise a bit. Since it's winter outside, we didn't put the birdhouse on the windowsill. Instead, we placed it on a shelf near the heating vent and a table lamp.
Results:
The whole experience was a blast, and the kids were just as excited about the outcome of their gardening. They'd run out every day to check if their grass had grown. By the 5th day, it was starting to sprout, and by day 8, give or take a day, we had these tiny little seedlings.
And then, about two weeks in, our little sprouts started to get a bit hairy.
It was clear that the seeds were from different plants.
As it turns out, these plants don't require a lot of maintenance. Just give 'em a bit of water now and then, and enjoy the ride. Some people say you can even trim the grass to give it a neat shape, but I didn't dare try. Our little uneven patches are kind of charming, if I do say so myself.
Maybe I should've planted different seeds in separate pots to make it even more interesting. But, let's be real, if I'd done that, there would've been a fight on my hands - my two kids are all about things being equal, or else there'll be tears.
The Verdict:
I'm thoroughly impressed with my purchase. For a mere 160 rubles, we got an engaging experience that taught the kids about responsibility and patience. I'd say it's a great value for money.
