I stumbled upon speedway after seeing an ad in the elevator of my apartment building. It sounded like a wild ride, and boy, was it ever!

We bought tickets for 262.5 rubles, and headed out to watch, cheer, and get all worked up, even though we had no idea what we were getting ourselves into.

According to Wikipedia, speedway is a type of motorcycle racing where riders compete on a circular track. The main difference between speedway and other types of motorcycle racing is the track, which is usually an oval shape ranging from 260m to 400m.

Speedway (from English speedway - high-speed road), also track motorcycle racing - one of the types of motorcycle sports.

The main difference between speedway and oval track racing and motocross is the track, which is an oval shape ranging from 260m to 400m (standard running track of a stadium), usually with a smooth, even surface (hence the popular name garage track racing).

However, the winter version of speedway is also popular - on ice (more commonly known in Russian as ice motorcycle racing).

Here's what the DOSAAF Motodrome looks like:

I want to share some atmospheric videos from that championship - it was super cool!

In every heat, we were cheering for someone! There were crashes and injuries, and they even stopped the race:

It was loud, fun, and the fans were super energetic (I think I was screaming the loudest!), as we were all on the edge of our seats! And we were lucky with the commentator - he did a great job, explaining everything clearly and making jokes!

Even the kids were participating and showing off what they could do, but unfortunately, I didn't manage to save that video.

We were constantly spraying the track with water (which eventually made the dry dust fly everywhere from under the motorcycle wheels, and the dirt):

...and leveling it:

I'll never forget this event! If you've never been to Speed Week, you absolutely have to go! And for the price, it's a total gift! The kids and teenagers will especially love it! It's just so cool! I want to go again!

But as for the venue of this Speed Week - it's the DOSAAF motodrome, and you need to be prepared for the fact that it's poorly organized:

1. We were sitting on the steps - it's literally just rocks... They were hot from the sun themselves.

We came up with the idea to put some bags under the fifth point, since we didn't know there was nowhere to sit, and this is what happened to the bags after 3.5 hours of sitting on them:

Can you imagine how uncomfortable it was to sit there?!?!?! Everything ached and hurt! There were no backrests to lean on either!

Says the official website of the city of Novosibirsk:

The motodrome has been in operation since 1964, and now it's used for motorcycle sports, speedway (motogonks on a gravel track), and motocross.

That's when the question arises: after almost 60 years of the motodrome's existence, couldn't they have made proper seating?!?!?

So, here's my suggestion: bring something to sit on - soft cushions for your bum, or else it'll be a nightmare.

Another thing to keep in mind: the speedway creates a lot of dust and dirt, so dress in the simplest clothes you don't mind getting dirty, and you'll have to wash them afterwards. You'll all end up covered in sand!

And don't bring open drinks - the dust and dirt will get straight into your glass. We were saved by thermoses with cold drinks from home (I'll write about them in one of my next reviews). And food - keep it in sealed bags.

It's also a good idea to bring some damp wipes to wipe your hands, bags, and phones - look at what happened to mine - everything's covered in dust:

My tip number 5: if it's going to be a scorcher, I recommend bringing a hat, sunglasses, and an umbrella to keep the sun off your back for the 3.5 hours of the event.

My tip number 6: if you want to win those awesome prizes for not using electronic tickets, make sure to sit closer to the exit, because they'll call out the numbers and you'll need to run to get there before everyone else.

My tip number 7: bring some noisemakers and be ready to cheer and show your support - it really makes a difference!

Get there early and grab a seat above the middle row, because you won't be able to see a thing from below.

And don't forget to be patient, because the whole event took 3 hours and 30 minutes, including the prize-giving and score-counting.

I'm deducting a star for the organization, but the event itself was EPIC!!!
