Iron Man Rip-Off Falls Flat: A Total Disappointment

summarizeEditor's Summary

I went into this movie expecting a thrilling superhero story, but what I got was a laughable rip-off of Iron Man. The plot is predictable, the acting is subpar, and the special effects are lackluster. It's clear that the filmmakers were trying to cash in on the popularity of the Marvel franchise, but they failed miserably. The movie's biggest problem is its lack of originality – it's a carbon copy of a better film. If you're a fan of superhero movies, you'll be disappointed by this lackluster effort. The movie tries to pass itself off as an original story, but it's just a rehashing of familiar themes and characters. The pacing is slow and plodding, making it hard to stay engaged. Overall, this movie is a total disappointment.

Russian cinema's been on a wild ride lately, but it's been in a slump, with too many comedies relying on toilet humor. And don't even get me started on the terrible remakes of classic films.
But every now and then, something good comes along, like Kambeck, a series that teaches youth the value of life. I'll tell you why it's a must-watch.
xa0
Kambeck - Alexander Petrov teaches youth the value of life. It's a great series, and I'll explain why it's a must-watch.
xa0
☎️ The mysterious series 'Bar 'One Call' with Oxana Akinshina and Danila Kozlovsky. It's been a long time coming, and I'm in love with it. I'll tell you why it's a must-watch.
xa0
Unfortunately, it's not often that you come across something like that.
On October 2nd, the movie (Ne)iskusstvennyi Intellect premiered in theaters.
xa0
xa0
You can easily watch it online now, and honestly, if you didn't see it in theaters, you didn't miss out on anything.
In my review, I'll tell you why this movie is a complete disappointment. So, get ready for my rant.
xa0
A little background info
xa0
Release year - 2025
Country - Russia
Genre-wise, this one's a wild ride - it's a mix of sci-fi, comedy, adventure, and family-friendly fun. I clocked it at 1 hour and 37 minutes, which is a great length for a movie that's this engaging.
It's rated 6 and up, so if you're planning to watch it with the kids, that's a good thing to know.
Here's the plot in a nutshell:
xa0
The Story.xa0
17-year-old first-year student, Genya, stumbles upon a top-secret research facility and accidentally gets trapped inside a prototype robot called the A.P.O100L.
This robot's got its own mind and a will of its own - it's like something straight out of a sci-fi novel!
Genya becomes the robot's unlikely pilot, and things get crazy when the robot decides to make a break for it.
Now, Genya's gotta find a way to connect with this AI and get back home in one piece.
xa0
Characters (Cast).xa0
Genya (Leon Kemptsch)
This kid's a total robotics whiz and a bit of a genius.
But beneath that tough exterior, he's got a soft spot and a deep sense of loss - his dad's not around, and it's taken a toll on him.
xa0
xa0
Genya finds himself trapped inside the robot's prototype, and it's a wild ride from there.
xa0
xa0
I've got to give credit to Leon Kemptach for his role in this movie. To be honest, I was completely indifferent to him before his appearance in that reality show. But after that, my opinion of him actually turned negative - I thought he was too soft and couldn't make tough decisions. It's funny, because the phrase 'actor without a script is nothing' really rings true in this case.
I wouldn't call him a great actor, though. He's just a pretty face, in my opinion.
xa0
Since he's inside a robot for most of the movie, his acting mostly consisted of showing different facial expressions and reactions. Sometimes it felt a bit over-the-top.
xa0
xa0
Apostle.
A robot created by Russian special services.
xa0
The Apostle has its own consciousness, can learn quickly, but can't function without a human inside. Plus, its 'brain' is equivalent to that of a five-year-old, and it takes everything literally.
From the first scenes, it's clear that the robot's design is inspired by RoboCop from the movie.
xa0
xa0
I've got to say, the real star of the show is the character inside the Apostle - it's like a toned-down Iron Man. The interface, the functions, and the internal UI are all pretty much identical to Tony Stark's creation.
xa0
xa0
It's pretty shocking how brazenly they copied a character and then tried to pass it off as their own. Newsflash, filmmakers: it's not that subtle. And it's a real shame that yet again, Russian cinema is representing itself as a blatant rip-off, and a second-rate one at that.
xa0
xa0
During the first demo, something went awry and the Apostle freaked out, thinking it was in danger, and took off with Jen, who's inside it. Now these two vastly different characters have to interact and go on some wild adventures together.
The action scenes that follow are pretty intense. The military guys are portrayed as bumbling and uncoordinated, trying to take out anything they don't understand.
I've got to give some props to the other actors, though - Alexei Chadov, who also directed this film, Igor Khripunov, and Alexander Samoylenko actually tried to bring some acting chops to the table. The rest of them? Complete waste of space. I've seen better acting at a local kids' morning show in our provincial town.
xa0
xa0
Storyline - another major issue with this film.xa0
I have to say, watching this film left me with a nagging feeling that the script was cobbled together from scraps of other scripts. Then I looked up the screenwriters and saw that there were six of them! It's like the old saying goes - too many cooks in the kitchen.
xa0
Vyacheslav DubovikovAlexei ChadovEkateryna ChudovaAlexander VorozheykinPeter MordvinetsElvin Mamedovxa0
The film starts off pretty dramatic, with a beautiful shot of a secret laboratory where they created the Apostle. And to be honest, it's not bad at that point - it's even kind of interesting.
xa0
But then things just go haywire.
Unrecognizable characters with actions that are just plain stupid. No special effects, no decent graphics, and even the costumes are laughable.
xa0
Watching this movie, I got the feeling that the entire budget went into creating the robot costume, and everything else was cobbled together from leftover sets.
xa0
xa0
I'm still not sure who the target audience is.xa0
As an adult, I completely didn't enjoy it, because I have something to compare it to (Iron Man, RoboCop), and because I can see that it's a blatant rip-off, and a really bad one at that.
xa0
Even a 14-year-old wouldn't enjoy this movie. It's boring and uninteresting - that's the verdict.
I think it'd be hard to keep the attention of younger viewers, unless they're into the song by Sigur Rós, which Apostle dances to.
xa0
xa0
I spent most of the time watching the movie at a faster speed to get to the end as quickly as possible. And the ending was just as dull and uninteresting as the rest of the movie.
xa0
xa0
Overall Impressionxa0
I've been reading opinions from Russian film industry professionals who are unhappy that our kids and youth are into Western movies, and that many Marvel characters have become their idols. And honestly, I just don't get it. Western movies are more interesting, with more professional special effects and acting. Come on, filmmakers, create a worthy alternative, and it's not like you're not getting any funding for it. The key word here is 'worthy'. Don't just shout that Western characters are evil, and then go ahead and copy them.
xa0
The Artificial Intelligence movie is a perfect example of when you start out with a good idea, but end up with a mess. What seemed like a great concept turned out to be a complete waste of time.
xa0
The movie has no genuinely exciting scenes, and no funny jokes. The authors just came up with a robot and a female character, and then created cartoonish villains out of thin air - military personnel and ridiculous Russian mobsters. The computer graphics, action scenes, and comedy all raise questions, but the most disturbing thing is the completely insane script.
I have to say, the topic of artificial intelligence is pretty relevant right now, and it'll be for a while. But in this movie, I didn't see it explored at all. The only thing the director tried to tackle was the question of a robot realizing itself as a personality. At what point does it understand it's a standalone unit, and self-preservation becomes the top priority?
However, this question got lost under a pile of unfunny jokes, uninteresting adventures, and poorly written characters.

Interesting:
xa0
I was expecting a bomb, but got a dud. Kira Knightley is searching for a girl, or so it seems.
xa0
'Kuznetsov TV' - a mix of Kardashians and Voronin's. The dirty laundry of a Balashikha family is being aired on national TV. When will the jokes pay off?
xa0
New reality show. Prokhor Shalyapin, Anfisa Chekhova, Aiza Luna Ai, Oleg Vereshchagin, Pavel Mamaev, and others are participating. The format is unique and interesting.
xa0
I'm not recommending you watch 'Nanny Oksana' (2025) - it's a modern take on the Nanny Wiki, but trust me, it's a wild ride that'll leave you fuming
xa0
The new reality show in the Caribbean just cast some fresh faces, but let's just say they're not exactly the most pleasant bunch - drama queen alert!
