Artigiano Polline Decorative Plaster Collection

I'm obsessed with the Polline collection from Artigiano - it's a game-changer for anyone looking to elevate their home's interior without breaking the bank. This premium decorative plaster finish is built to last, and the best part? It's surprisingly affordable.

A beautiful finish, but not worth the long-term cost

summarizeEditor's Summary

I've been experimenting with decorative paints for over six years now, and this one's got a stunning finish. It's water-based, has no strong smell, and the aggregates are natural – we chose one with Sahara Desert sand. Working with it is a breeze, but the long-term cost adds up, and it's not something I'd recommend for the average DIYer. The coverage is excellent, but the paint itself is pricey, and shipping took ages.

I've been messing around with decorative paints for over six years now.
They're known by different names – Venetian plaster, decorative plaster, or just a paint with aggregates. I remember when it wasn't super popular, and you couldn't find it in most stores.
We ordered it on request. We spent ages talking to the manager, who showed us samples and told us how he applied it himself. We trusted him, bought the paint directly from Italy, and it was pricey. But we never regretted it!
First, it's water-based, has no stinky smell, and can be thinned with water to the desired consistency. The aggregates are natural too – we chose one with Sahara Desert sand.
Second, working with it is incredibly easy. The instructions say to apply it with chaotic movements, which is perfect advice for me. I applied it just like that.
You mix the paint with a brush, like a conductor, with a small amplitude. And on the wall, it looks amazing and has a beautiful sheen!
The coverage is excellent. From the first layer, it looks almost perfect, especially since we used a high-quality primer that matches the color.
The second layer can be thinned with water even more. It's easier to apply, and the paint lasts longer.
Here's how it looked the first time:

But let's get real – that's not the paint I'm reviewing. This blue one is more expensive, made in Italy, and they don't import it here anymore.
After trying it once, I didn't want to go back to wallpaper. It seemed like painting was way easier, and at the same price, if you choose a decent wallpaper, it's roughly the same.
Plus, we got to experience the material's repairability firsthand. When we moved furniture, we accidentally scratched the wall. One quick brushstroke, and the damage was gone!
The paint is easy to clean, and it's resistant to water and cleaning products.
We used Artigiano paint in 2019 when we renovated our new apartment. We bought it from Your Home store for 2,500 rubles for a 2.5-liter container.
Artigiano Decorative Plaster, POLLINE Collection
This is an Italian brand, but it's made in Russia.
I'm confident that you won't be able to tell the difference between these paints and a wall just by looking at it, or running your hand over it (unless you're an Italian expert, that is!).
The quality is excellent. The sand isn't from the Sahara, but you can't tell by looking at it.
There's a pearlescent effect. It's easy to apply, and it looks great:

We've already figured out that the paint smooths out surface imperfections, so you don't need to strive for a perfect plaster job like you would for wallpaper or smooth paint. Small imperfections are actually a plus, as they add to the effect of a relaxed, imperfect finish.
We bought a non-branded primer, a standard decorative plaster primer from Leroy Merlin for 611 rubles for 2.5 liters. It's a good product from the Parade company.
The paint is very economical to use.
The photos show a kitchen of about 10 square meters. Considering the window, door opening, and tile backsplash, we used about half a can to paint it in two coats.
Now, about the downside.
We've had this paint on our hallway walls for three years now.
It's performed beautifully – no cracks, no peeling, no fading. It looks expensive and luxurious.
Although it's resistant to water and cleaning products, the walls are actually quite difficult to clean. The sand is like sandpaper. Any cloth or sponge leaves behind fibers. A microfiber cloth will stick to it like glue.
You can easily clean a small stain, but it's hard to get the surface looking fresh again.
It's also hard to wipe away dust. It breaks apart and clings to the sand.
It's actually easier to just apply another coat of paint.
So, that's the only downside. Everything else is just great. This is a fantastic paint.
We also bought this paint at Castorama, and it's another great option:
I've gotta say, the L'Impression Biblos Perle in sand with a silver finish is a real showstopper
