Booking and Cost
I booked an apartment through the Ostrvo app, which I found convenient for searching and viewing photos and reviews. There were several options for booking and payment, so I chose to pay on site and only paid for the first two days in advance. Unfortunately, the booking couldn't be canceled after the advance payment was made, but if you don't cancel, the full stay will be charged. The cost of staying in September 2025 was 3960 rubles per day.
The check-in and check-out times were standard for hotels. We had no issues with check-in, but we wanted to check out later, which is usually possible in hotels by paying for half a day and agreeing on the check-out time. However, here, it's either a full day or check-out. I was disappointed to have to pay for 1/3 of the day, especially since I knew about this condition when booking and had a backup plan, but I was too ill to change my plans. I asked to extend my stay on the day of check-out, and they agreed quickly since the room was available. However, the price had increased to 4500 rubles.
Location
I usually thoroughly research the location, knowing where the metro is, how far it is to walk, and what shops, restaurants, and attractions are nearby. This area is familiar to me, and there are plenty of places to walk, dine, and relax in the evening. I relied on Ostrvo, which indicated that the metro station, Vosstaniya Square, was just 681 meters away. However, in reality, it took 20 minutes to walk, including crossing intersections and traffic lights. The address is 6th Soviet Street, 5.
I was initially disappointed when I thought our luggage wasn't heavy, and we could quickly reach the metro. However, we found a few routes to vary our walks. The location was generally pleasant, with the metro station Mayskaya being a bit farther away, which made traveling around the city easier. The Moscow railway station and the Galeria shopping center, where we could shop and dine at a gastronomic court, were nearby. We also visited the Nizhny shopping center, Azbuka Vkusov, and VkusVill, which we didn't have in our city.
Apartment
The apartment is located on the 2nd floor of a 7-story residential building. The entrance hall is decorated in a classic style, with a old elevator that has manual doors and a transparent shaft. I was too scared to ride it, but it's functional and relatively quiet. The apartment itself is on the 2nd floor, and the entrance is through a separate door.
The check-in was contactless, and there was no administrator in the apartment. Unfortunately, we encountered another issue when the owner sent us a message with payment details and a rules form to fill out, which included attaching photos of our passports. I filled it out, expecting further instructions, but instead, we received a message with payment instructions only after we saw the receipt. We had to pay almost 40 rubles for the privilege of not seeing the apartment before paying. They offered an alternative option to pay by phone when we arrived, but we had to do it within 10 minutes. It was a bit inconvenient, but I understand that both parties want to avoid any misunderstandings.
After paying, we received the access codes, and the instructions were detailed. We settled in quickly. We only contacted the owner again for cleaning and extending our stay.
Common Areas
The entrance hall has a small area with various accessories, including slippers and sponges. I'm not sure if they're free or if the prices are still displayed. We didn't use anything there.
The long corridor has numbers, and the renovation is fresh, with white brick walls and carpeted floors. I was pleased that it was quieter than expected.
The common area has everything: an ironing board, several irons, clothes drying racks, and a washing machine. We were happy to have a washing machine and dryer, as we didn't have to hang our clothes to dry. The detergent was provided, but we had to use it during the day, as it wasn't allowed at night.
Room
The room is small but visually pleasing, with a classic style that matches the corridor. It's not too big, but it's cozy. The high ceilings, especially in the bathroom, were a pleasant surprise. However, the bathroom had a few issues, including water spots and a leaky shower curtain.
We had a one-bedroom apartment with a separate bathroom and kitchen. The room had a double bed, a small table, and a wardrobe with a mirror door. The wardrobe was tiny, with only three hangers and no shelves or hooks. We had to hang some of our clothes on the back of the chairs and the door handle. There was no other storage space.
The windows opened, and we could ventilate the room. There were mosquito nets, which was a nice touch.
The kitchen area was small, with a microwave, kettle, fridge, and sink. We didn't cook much, but the kitchen was functional. There was a small table with two chairs, and we used it for breakfast and snacks.
The bathroom was small but had everything we needed, including a shower, sink, and toilet. The water pressure was good, and the shower curtain was clean. There was a hair dryer, and the towels were provided.
Impressions
Overall, we were comfortable in the apartment, and it had everything we needed. We appreciated the presence of windows, which we didn't have in our previous apartment. The high humidity in the room was a bit of an issue, but we could ventilate it by opening the windows. The apartment was clean, and we were happy with the amenities, including the washing machine and dryer.
We used the kettle daily and enjoyed the dining area, which was nicely decorated. We also used the microwave a few times, but it wasn't necessary. We appreciated the presence of a sink in the room, as we didn't like washing dishes in the bathroom.
The soundproofing was poor, and we could hear our neighbors, who were quite loud. We could also hear the washing machine and dryer, which were popular among the guests. However, it wasn't a major issue, and we didn't experience any major problems during our stay.
We stayed for 10 days, and the room was cleaned and the bedding changed only once. The common areas were cleaned more frequently.
The location was a bit of a disappointment, as it was farther from the metro than we expected. There weren't many attractions in the area, and we had to walk a bit to find something to do in the evening. However, the old architecture was a pleasant surprise, and we enjoyed the unique style of St. Petersburg. The nearby construction was a bit of a nuisance, but it wasn't a major issue.
There were several supermarkets nearby, including Diksi, Pyaterochka, Magnit, and VkusVill.
Where to Eat
We ordered food from Ded Hoi, a Vietnamese restaurant, several times. It was affordable, delicious, and very filling. We also visited some bars and restaurants, including My Friends Pub, which served great food and had a lively atmosphere. We also tried Miso, which served excellent sushi, but the service was poor. Hype's, a nearby restaurant, served great pasta and pizza.
Editor's Summary
This cozy apartment in St. Petersburg offers a comfortable stay with a classic style, a small but functional room, and a convenient location near several supermarkets. However, the soundproofing is poor, and the location is a bit far from the metro. The apartment has a washing machine and dryer, which is a major plus. The staff is friendly, but the check-in process could be improved. Overall, it's a good option for those who want a quiet and comfortable stay in St. Petersburg.
