A Hidden Gem on Sri Lanka's South Coast: Coral Sands Hotel Review

I recently had the chance to visit Sri Lanka, a tropical island that's perfect for a relaxing getaway, and I wanted to share some sunny and beachy photos from my trip.

During our travels around the island, we stayed in different hotels, and one of our favorites was the Coral Sands Hotel in Hikkaduwa. Although it's only rated 3 stars, many tour operators are now marketing it as a 4-star hotel, and I have to say, it's really living up to its new reputation.

The cost of our stay for three people was 21,850 rubles for just one night, excluding flights. Check-in time was 2 PM, and check-out was at 12 PM.

The location of the Coral Sands Hotel really caught my attention. The road runs right next to it, but don't worry, there's a free parking spot for motorbikes. The hotel grounds aren't huge, but they're well-maintained, and the staff takes good care of them. There are two outdoor pools with ocean views, and they're surrounded by comfy sun loungers. I loved lounging on the beach instead – it's right next to the hotel, and I was here for the Indian Ocean, after all. The pool water is crystal clear, and I even saw the staff cleaning it. You'll always find a free sun lounger, but I prefer spending time on the beach. It's a great perk of staying here.

The hotel staff is super friendly and helpful, even when we couldn't communicate in the local language. They always try to assist tourists, resolve any issues, and fulfill their requests and wishes.

The hotel has security cameras installed, making it a safe place to stay.

Our room wasn't huge, but it was bright and had a kettle, TV (although there was only one Russian channel, we watched movies on our phone), ceiling fan, air conditioner, and a clothes dryer. However, due to the high humidity, our clothes took a while to dry. The room was cleaned daily, and we got fresh bed linen and towels every day, along with free beach towels that we could pick up in the morning and return in the evening. We didn't experience any issues with electricity, and the shower had hot water with good water pressure, making it perfect for a relaxing bath. The bathroom fixtures weren't new, but they worked fine, and the furniture was decent. The hotel itself was quite clean. We had free Wi-Fi in the rooms and around the pool, and it worked well.

The hotel offers meal options, with some guests taking breakfast and dinner, while others just had breakfast. The breakfast buffet was quite diverse, with plenty of fruits and veggies, dry breakfast options with milk, cereals, omelets, scrambled eggs, and waffles. We spoke to fellow Russian travelers, and they were all happy with the food. However, I opted for the room-only package to have more flexibility with dining. There are plenty of local restaurants, bars, and cafes nearby, offering a wide range of options, including fresh seafood and fruits.

The Coral Sands Hotel has an excellent location, right on the ocean, with a sandy beach and a gentle entry into the water. The beaches to the left and right of the hotel have crystal-clear water, and you can spot fish on one side and giant turtles on the other (although it's usually crowded there). I loved the beach in Hikkaduwa, where you can swim for hours without strong waves like in Koggala. If you want some shade, you can hide under the palm trees, and there are paid beach loungers available. There are also boats on the water, offering water activities.

I highly recommend the Coral Sands Hotel as a great place to stay in Hikkaduwa.

Now, I've been using this thing for a while now, and I've got to say, the customer support has been top-notch. I had a question about the return policy, and I sent them an email. They got back to me within a few hours, and it was super helpful. I was a bit worried about returning it, but they made it super easy. The process was smooth, and I had my refund within a week. Overall, I've had a great experience with this hotel.
