My Honest Review of COMEX's Indian Herb Balm for Hair: Does it Really Deliver?
Hey fellow natural hair enthusiasts!
I'm super excited to share my thoughts on one of the most important steps in natural hair care – using a hair balm. I've been searching for a great, organic balm, and I'm thrilled to say that I've finally found a gem in COMEX's hair balm made with Indian herbal ingredients.
Before making the switch to organic hair care, my trusty sidekicks were the Fanola hair care set – shampoo, mask, non-rinse conditioner, and spray. My hair looked amazing after using these products, but the formula left me wanting more. The more I used them, the more I realized that Fanola only improved the appearance of my hair, but didn't give it any real nourishment. It felt like I was using a silicone-based product, and to top it off, I started experiencing dandruff and oily scalp issues on the second day after using the products.
That's when I started looking for a natural shampoo and balm to kick-start my hair care routine. I was eager to see how my hair would react to these new products, since not all locks love organic care.
COMEX's hair balm made with Indian herbal ingredients really impressed me with its natural formula
Aqua with infusions of Emblica officinalis fruit powder, Lawsonia inermis leaf powder, Eclipta alba powder, Shikakai powder, Aritha powder, Ocimum sanctum leaf powder, Azadirachta indica leaves powder, Rubia Cordifolia powder*** (water with extracts of Indian herbs), Cetyl Alcohol*** (a plant-based emulsifier), Composition (Coco Glucoside and Glyceryl Oleate)** (a plant-based moisturizer), Glycerol*** (plant-derived glycerin), Behentrimonium Chloride*** (a conditioning agent from rapeseed oil), Coco-Caprylate** (a plant-based silicone), D-Panthenol*** (a moisturizer), Composition (Polyquaternium-37 (and) Dicaprylyl Carbonate (and) Lauryl Glucoside)*** (a natural stabilizer), Lactic acid*** (corn-derived lactic acid), Tocopherol Acetate*** (vitamin E), Composition (Sorbitan Caprylate, Propanediol, Benzoic Acid)** (a plant-based preservative), Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride*** (a thickening agent from tree resin), Nucifera (Coconut) Fruit Extract* (organic coconut extract), Lemon Essential Oil*** (lemon essential oil), Parfum with Jasminum grandiflorum essential oil.
On the other side of the bottle, the manufacturer describes the functions of the main ingredients (or, as they're also called, actives):
I've got to say, half of these functions could be disputed, because hair balm is applied to the length of hair, not the scalp. So, it's debatable whether one of the main benefits of this balm – hair strengthening, growth acceleration, and the rest – is actually effective. That being said, it doesn't take away from the fact that the balm's composition is organic and top-notch.
One of the things that really stood out to me about this COMEX balm is the built-in dispenser. It's super convenient for keeping the product fresh and preventing it from leaking during transport, and it also gives you a decent dose for your hair. Since I've got a short cut, I only need one click, but for longer, thicker hair, two clicks would be the way to go.
Consistency and scent: The balm is really thick, almost like a hair mask. But don't get it twisted - balsams and hair masks are two different beasts, with different pH balances and uses.
I have to say, the scent of this balm is a bit of a love-it-or-hate-it situation - it's got a herbal vibe that's a bit off-putting, kinda like old grandma's cream. But the good news is that the smell doesn't linger on your hair.
Usage:
Now things get really interesting. I've done a ton of experiments with this organic product to figure out the best way to use it and see how my hair reacts. To be objective, I even got a friend to join in on the fun, since balsams can behave differently on different hair types.
1 method:
1) Shampoo: I used the same brand's dry shampoo, massaged it into my scalp twice, and left it for 1-2 minutes.
2) Balm: I was curious to see how my hair would react to the balm without any extra help, so I applied it as the second step.
I followed the instructions, which said to leave the scalp balm on for just 2 minutes. But, since it looked like a mask to me, I left it on for 15 minutes.
I didn't use any other products besides the balm and shampoo. The result was honestly shocking - there was no noticeable softness, shine, or moisture. My hair turned into hay that was impossible to comb through.
At this point, I thought it was a lost cause, and I'd never use this balm again. But, after some time, I decided to give it another chance and try it out again. It's worth remembering that organic hair care products work accumulatively and remove all those silicones and nasty chemicals that were in our hair after using silicone-based shampoos. That's why patience is key.
Method 2:
First, I used the same shampoo as before, and then applied the balm, but this time I listened to the instructions and left it on for just 2 minutes.
My hair improved slightly, but it still wasn't what I was hoping for - dryness and tangling were back, and even touching it with a comb meant I was saying goodbye to my locks.
Method 3:
Desperate, I decided that this balm just wasn't for me and came up with an idea to experiment and apply it to other hair - dyed, light hair. The result was the same - dryness and tangling.
Method 4:
I've tried every trick in the book to get my hair looking its best, and this time I'm sharing my most surprising discovery yet - combining Comex Ayurvedic Natural Oil with an organic mask (check out my previous recommendations for more on these products) has been a game-changer!
And voilà, the magic happened! My hair is now shiny, silky, and super nourished, with zero dryness or frizz.
It's been a long journey to find the perfect formula for my locks.
Comex Ayurvedic Hair Balm from Indian medicinal herbs is indeed an organic product with hundreds of positive reviews, but I wouldn't recommend it - the effort just isn't worth it. Instead of dancing around trying to find the right formula, you can get a better organic product that won't dry out your hair.
I'm giving it two stars because of its good ingredients and the option to combine it with another product for a more powerful care routine.
