I was getting a little worried that the excitement was over, but I was pleasantly surprised when another book in the series came out in 2022.
It turns out, it wasn't the last one. This time around, we're in for a real treat - a quest to a wedding!
Before I said 'I do' at the altar, I had no idea what lay ahead.

👠👗👑 BOOK SUMMARY / BRIEF DESCRIPTION | PLOT:
Book summary Cinderella Linh is about to marry Emperor Kai. After facing countless challenges, the happy couple has finally made it to the big day! Now, all that's left for Linh is to slip into her stunning wedding dress, walk into the glittering ballroom, and say 'I do'.
But it turns out, it's not that easy when the path is winding and full of dangers, and around every corner are friends, enemies, strangers, or very, very tempting offers...
The plots of all Marissa Meyer's books have suddenly intertwined. Zola is about to meet the heroes of other stories, and she'll need your help. Only you can guide her through the right choices and navigate the thrilling quest.
👠👗👑 MAYBE I'M BIASED, BUT...
The cover, like all the others... I mean, it's actually very beautiful... as the book says: the hem of the dress is so long it would reach France...
Cinder. The Glass Slipper and the Crown. Marissa MeyerAnd Zola again... Just like how the series started with her, it's ended with her wedding and...
Let's get one thing straight: this book is not straightforward. It's not just a book, it's a choose-your-own-adventure book. You read a chapter, and then you get to choose what happens next. Even on the first chapter, I found myself wondering what Zola would do.
This is actually really engaging, because you make a choice and then you think about what would've happened if you'd chosen differently. And then you read the next chapter, and you're thinking about the other choice you could've made...
So, I decided to prepare a notebook and a pen to jot down my choices and then go back and read the other options...
Cinder. The Glass Slipper and the Crown. Marissa MeyerIt's not like it's a book without an ending, but the ending is different depending on your choices. I mean, it's there, but it's different, and you can go back and read it again to see the other outcome...
And, just to clarify, there are 53 chapters. Don't get confused. They're short, but there are a lot of them.
The Stepsister Scheme. Marissa Meyer I've got a similar book, actually it was my ex's... I don't remember the plot, but I do recall enjoying the unconventional way the story unfolded as I turned the pages. We ended up reading all the chapters one after another, just to see how the story would conclude. If we'd read it in order, I'm not sure if anything would have stuck with me...
Fortunately, this book is relatively slim, with manageable chapter lengths and not too many pages. The real magic lies in the diverse storytelling and characters. At the beginning, it's explicitly stated that other characters from different series will be featured... and even their names and backgrounds are mentioned. As someone who's only read the Lunar Chronicles, I found it a bit challenging to keep track of everything. I even considered reading other books in the series and then coming back to this one, or diving into the entire series at once. But I love a good challenge, so I decided to press on and read this one first.
The Stepsister Scheme. Marissa Meyer The Stepsister Scheme. Marissa Meyer However, it's not always easy to follow. When you read chapter by chapter, the story unfolds smoothly and makes sense, but when the scenes change quickly, it can be a bit disorienting. One minute you're visiting the Inspectre, chatting with the Old Man from The Golden Fish, and the next thing you know, you're at the Old Woman's from The Queen of Spades, wearing the Garnet Necklace. Some chapters can be a bit jarring, but that's also what makes it so interesting...
The Glass Slipper. Take Me to the Ball. Marissa Meyer The Glass Slipper. Take Me to the Ball. Marissa MeyerI love that this book isn't predictable. You get to choose which way to go and what choices to make.
KEY TAKEAWAYS:
This book's complexity is a major draw for me. It's like a puzzle with multiple storylines and characters from other series. Plus, it's a choose-your-own-adventure book. I'm already planning to read it again, just to explore the different options.
