Diving Deeper into the World of Charusin

summarizeEditor's Summary

I'm hooked on this series, and the second book delivers big time. We finally get answers about Charusin's past, and it's a wild ride full of twists and turns. The action is lightning-fast, and the characters are well-developed - I'm seriously invested in Charusin's mission and can't wait to see what's next. If you're a fan of private detectives and complex plots, this series is a must-read.

I wrote about the first book in this series a while back: "Lightning-fast Action. Andrei Vasilev". That's where we meet Charusin, a regular guy who works for "The World at Night," basically a private detective running his own agency, "The Key," and taking on various missions. He's a man of his word, and you can't help but root for him.
The first book barely scratched the surface of his past, but in the second, we finally get some answers about why he's so desperate to get to Nav'. It's a price he's willing to pay for Rod's tear, and you understand why he can't back down, no matter how crazy the mission gets.
So far, so good: the team's assembled, and they're off to the Ural Mountains to find "the tear." The action's picking up pace, and it's starting to feel like a real competition. We still don't know everything about the characters, but the stakes are getting higher, and there are some seriously scary people out there. And then there's the vampire plotline, which started in the first book and is still ongoing. I'm hooked, even if I'm not entirely sure what's going on. It's a bit confusing, but in a good way.
I'm definitely enjoying this series more than the first book, and I'm already on the third installment. It looks like there are four books in total, and they're meant to be read in order. That's definitely a good thing, because I'm not ready to say goodbye to these characters yet.One minor quibble: the cover art makes the characters look way too young – it's a bit jarring when you know they're supposed to be seasoned pros.
I'd recommend this book to anyone who's already familiar with "The World at Night," but if you're new to the series, start with something else. Trust me, you won't regret it. The series is just getting better and better, and I'm excited to see where it goes from here.
Here are my reviews of the first books in the series, in the order I think you should read them:
