A Mixed Bag from Chance Bio Lab: Where Things Went Wrong
check_circlePros
- The lab's equipment seemed modern and well-maintained, but I couldn't fully appreciate it due to the other issues. The staff was friendly and welcoming, but their professionalism left much to be desired. I appreciated the convenience of having the lab located in my city, but that's about where the positives end. The lab's website was easy to navigate, and I liked the idea of being able to schedule appointments online. However, the actual experience fell far short of my expectations. I was impressed by the lab's willingness to accept my insurance, but that didn't make up for the subpar service. The lab's hours of operation were convenient, but that's about all I can say positively about my experience.

- The lab's lack of transparency and communication was a major concern for me. The inconsistent results from the blood clotting tests raised red flags, and the anesthesiologist's refusal to proceed with the procedure was a clear indication of the lab's incompetence. The doctors seemed more interested in 'floating' on the clients' needs rather than providing actual care. I was shocked by the lab's tendency to disregard customers' concerns and needs. The lab's inability to diagnose my pets' conditions accurately was a major letdown. The lab's poor build quality and lack of attention to detail were evident in the equipment and facilities. The lab's customer support was non-existent, and I had to deal with a lot of hassle when I tried to get help.

Editor's Summary
I've got to be honest, my experience with Chance Bio Lab was a total mixed bag. I was trying to get some blood clotting tests done on my two cats before a liver puncture procedure, but things just didn't go as planned. The lab's results were all over the place, and the anesthesiologist refused to move forward with the procedure because of it. To make matters worse, the lab's communication was super lacking - I felt like I was in the dark the whole time. I tried to give them another chance, but I encountered more issues, like the doctors being totally unprofessional and not caring about my pets' needs. In the end, I had to take my business (and my pets) elsewhere because I just didn't feel confident in the lab's ability to get things right. A Mixed Bag from Chance Bio Lab: Where Things Went Wrong
I've got a three-act story to tell about my experience with two cats that needed a liver puncture for diagnosis and treatment. I'll try to condense the story for this review while keeping the sequence of events intact.
Here's the situation: two cats needed a liver puncture, and before the procedure, we had to run a blood clotting test because the liver is a highly vascular organ and there's a risk of significant bleeding during the manipulation.
The story unfolds by date of our visits to Chance Bio Lab for the blood clotting test. I've attached a summary table of the results for clarity. The table shows the results of the analysis for one of the cats, as the second cat's results were almost identical in numbers for all three tests.
September 16, 2025: We brought in the two cats and ran the first blood test. The results showed deviations from the reference values provided on the test sheet. We sent the results to the anesthesiologist in the EVC and got a routine refusal to perform the procedure. I was already concerned and surprised by the similarity in the test results for both cats, but I decided to trust the lab. After all, the cats were housed together under the same conditions and fed the same diet.
Our gastroenterologist prescribed a vitamin K1 medication to boost blood clotting speed, which we took as directed and then repeated the blood test.
October 10, 2025: We ran the second blood test and got new numbers that were almost unchanged compared to the previous results, with some even worsening despite the medication. Again, the results for both cats were almost identical. Both cats didn't respond to treatment, and we decided to switch to an imported medication and repeat the course. But I'm not a doctor to evaluate the results, and I left it up to the anesthesiologist at the Cats' Clinic to decide. Maybe different doctors have different competencies – that's normal. But we got another routine refusal for the procedure.
November 7, 2025: We ran the third blood test after completing the K1 course. This time, I brought in three cats, as one needed an emergency operation. We got the test results, and the numbers continued to show no change for the first two cats. If we compared the last test results to the first ones, before the medication, the numbers had actually worsened. That sealed my growing suspicion about the quality of the test at Chance Bio Lab – the fact that the third cat showed almost identical results only strengthened my doubts.
The next day, I went to the Cats' Clinic at the time of the scheduled operation and asked them to run the blood clotting test in their lab.
November 8, 2025: The day of the scheduled operation at the Cats' Clinic and the last blood test for the two cats (see the table below). We took blood from both cats three times! The blood simply wouldn't flow from the vein, and if it did, it would clot by the time it reached the analyzer. It was a nightmare for the poor cats and the doctors, and I regret not doubting the results of Chance Bio Lab even after the first visit. One of the cats managed to have blood taken from the jugular vein – the largest accessible vein if you're not familiar. And lo and behold, the numbers finally fell within the reference ranges for both cats! The operation was a success.
Two months went by before we even got the chance to do the test. That's two months of our cats not getting the treatment they needed, just because of some incorrect lab results.
I'm not going to sugarcoat it or pretend to be an expert, but I'll share my thoughts and analysis of the situation. What I can say is that, comparing the approach of the Cat Clinic and the Lab Chance, here's what I noticed:
When I took blood from both cats on 10.10.25 at Lab Chance, I could already see that the blood wasn't flowing smoothly on its own. This suggests that there was a quick clotting in the needle's cannula. As a result, small blood clots inevitably ended up in the test tube when taking the sample, which is unacceptable for the material being tested for clotting. The screenshots from Lab Chance's website, shown below, confirm this.Due to the blood not flowing smoothly, we couldn't collect the required amount of blood within the specified timeframe.Throughout the attempts to collect blood, a tourniquet was applied to the cat's leg, which also breaches the requirement on Lab Chance's website. So, I don't know what the real reason was behind our ordeal with this test at Lab Chance. I'm not a doctor, but I can say that our gastroenterologist was speechless when she saw the results. We lost two months of treatment, which could have worsened the diagnosis, as we took the puncture for sending the bacteria growing in the liver ducts to a culture. Thanks to Lab Chance's carelessness, we gave the bacteria two more months to multiply. On top of that, our cats received incorrect treatment aimed at increasing blood clotting speed, which could have led to microthrombosis in a healthy cat, causing severe consequences. We got two courses of medication in minimal dosage.
I'm anticipating the response from Lab Chance's quality control department. I've already reached out to them for clarification. Summarizing their response, it boils down to this: we did everything right, and our references are normal. It's your doctors who incompetently interpreted the test results. I've spoken to two reputable clinics and two anesthesiologists. Both refused to comment. Our gastroenterologist, who's one of the best and recommended by many specialists, was also misinformed by the test results. How is that possible? It's simple: to interpret test results, there are references. Deviations from them are not considered normal. To delve deeper into the causes and analyze the test results more thoroughly, only a hematologist can do that – it's their area of expertise, not the gastroenterologist's or anesthesiologist's. Yes, an anesthesiologist has a broader range of skills, but they're still limited. If the test was done correctly, why do the results from one day to another vary so much? If we misinterpreted the test, why aren't the results within the specified references listed on the test sheet for the type of animal in question?
