Cozy Cinema Ottrad, Moscow

I've had my Cozy Cinema Ottrad home theater system for a while now, and it's become our go-to spot for family movie nights. The setup is super easy to use, and the build quality is top-notch - it's definitely a great value for money. We love snuggling up on the couch and enjoying a great movie together.

Catch the latest sanctioned flicks in Moscow with comfy couches at a price that's hard to beat

summarizeEditor's Summary

I'm not gonna lie, Mягкий Kino in Moscow's Otrada shopping center is a real gem. For a price that's ridiculously affordable, you get comfy couches that are adjustable to your liking and a wide selection of sanctioned flicks. The cinema's pre-show service system is what makes it all work, but let's get real – it's a bit of a loophole. Still, if you're looking for a unique movie experience at an affordable price, Mягкий Kino is worth checking out. I used it for a week and was pleasantly surprised by the build quality and ease of use. The cinema's customer support is top-notch, and the return policy is pretty lenient. I'd say Mягкий Kino is a great option for anyone looking for a value-for-money cinema experience in Moscow. The cinema's location might be a bit tricky to find, even with GPS, but it's worth the effort. The movie selection can be a bit limited at times, but they usually have a good mix of old and new releases. Some of the staff can be a bit unfriendly, but that's not always the case. The cinema's sound system can be a bit wonky at times, and the snacks and drinks are a bit overpriced, but that's to be expected. The cinema can get a bit crowded during peak hours, but it's still a great place to catch a movie.

Catch the latest sanctioned flicks in Moscow with comfy couches at a price that's hard to beat
Located in the Otrada shopping center, Mягкий Kino is a cinema that offers an unparalleled level of comfort at an unbeatable price. Most theaters with this level of luxury come with a hefty price tag, but at Mягкий Kino, the most expensive showing costs between 600-700 rubles. And I've got to say, the movie selection is a real draw - they're screening new releases that, for one reason or another, didn't get a Russian distribution deal.
The cinema's pre-show service system is what makes it all work. This new way of showing Hollywood blockbusters rolled out in Russia in late July 2022 as a pretty logical, if not exactly legal, response to sanctions affecting movie distribution for most Western studios.
The idea behind it is to skirt around the ban on selling tickets to these movies - they sell tickets to Russian short films instead (which, of course, nobody wants to watch). And then, supposedly for free, they screen the foreign film beforehand. It's basically a copyright infringement, and one that's being enabled by the authorities' silence - many major cinema chains have refused to participate in this scheme.
So, where's the comfy cinema? The cinema is just a stone's throw from Mitiino metro, tucked away in the Otrada shopping center at Piatnitskoe shosse 7 kilometer, v2 pos. Otradnoe, Krasnogorsk, Moscow Oblast. Opening hours are every day from 10:00 to 23:00.
The cinema is located on the first floor, right next to other shops in the mall's gallery. I have to admit, we even got lost the first time, although the sign is pretty noticeable. We just got used to having a separate cinema zone.
The cinema has some great features. There are plenty of screens, including 2D and 3D. The waiting area is clean, spacious, and really pleasant, with mini tables and arcade games. It's got a cloakroom and a café, too. Popcorn prices are lower than the average in Moscow. Plus, there are all the usual cinema snacks - chips, nachos. The toilets are clean and spacious.
Be warned, it can get pretty crowded, so it's a good idea to buy tickets online in advance. The cinema's website is user-friendly and glitch-free.
Theaters
I've gotta say, the theaters in this place are really something special. They're small but super comfy, with plenty of legroom and even space to stash your feet. The seats are doubles, with just enough space between them so you won't be bothered by your neighbor. Plus, the tiered seating is designed so you can't see the guy in front of you staring at his phone - a major pet peeve of mine.
The recline and footrest are adjustable, so you can get comfy however you like - and on the first row, you can even lie down if you want to. The staff are always tidying up between shows, so the theaters are spotless.
Screen Quality
The picture quality is seriously impressive, with a massive screen and professional-grade resolution. The sound is powerful and crystal clear - technically, it's flawless. The staff are friendly and unobtrusive, but we didn't really interact with them much.
Movie Selection
I'm really looking forward to checking out the latest movies at this theater, like Ghostbusters: Afterlife, Godzilla vs. Kong, and The King's Man. I'm also excited to see The Minions, The Quiet Place Part II, Deadpool 3, and Alien: Romulus on the big screen. Plus, I've heard great things about the new Joker movie.
Speaking of which, my friends and I were some of the first people in Moscow to see Dune on March 3rd - we beat the other theaters in the city by a whole day! Read our review of the movie to see what we thought. And to make things even better, the theater had a special discount day for the first part of the movie on March 2nd. The person in charge of the movie selection is a genius - they really know what they're doing!
The Only Downfall
I was really hoping this theater would be more convenient to get to, but unfortunately, it's not. The shopping center where it's located isn't exactly within walking distance of the metro. You have to take the bus, drive, or take a taxi to get here. And even then, it's only a 5-7 minute ride - it's a bit of a trek on foot.
I'd say the cinema is a real winner, and I'd definitely recommend it, even with the awkward seating arrangement. The 200 ruble taxi fare at the end of the night isn't too bad, considering it's roughly what we'd pay anyway. Can't wait to see what other great movies they've got in store for us!
