Hello fellow film enthusiasts!
I'll be upfront - at first, I wasn't convinced to watch the British film 'Buried Alive', but the more I read about it, the more intrigued I became.
The title did evoke images of horror movies, but the plot is actually a gripping psychological thriller that tackles a very relevant topic in today's world of social media.
A brief summary of the film:
Aadi, a driven and ambitious YouTuber, agrees to participate in a bizarre internet challenge organized by an enigmatic cult. However, the 'fun activity' turns out to be a deadly trap, as Aadi finds himself buried alive six feet deep, with a malevolent entity lurking nearby. Now, his life depends on his ability to overcome this creature and understand why he was put in this grave before he died.
The film was released in 2024.The original title is Die Before You Die.The runtime is 104 minutes.
Aadi, played by Ziad Abaza, is a very driven and ambitious YouTuber, who's willing to take on questionable challenges for fame, subscribers, and likes.
I've been living with my girlfriend Amira and our kid, but my job is so demanding that I barely get to spend time with them.
Or I do, but only because it's for my content.
And I often get frustrated with them when they interrupt my shoots.
My follower count isn't growing, and I'm blaming my competitor, another influencer.
One of my followers suggests an interesting experiment.
The challenge involves being buried alive in a six-foot-deep grave.
Adi and his friend are kitted out in white gear.
They're only taking a flashlight and a watch.
The phone isn't supposed to be taken, but Adi convinces the challenge organizers to let him get it out to film his descent into the tomb.
All for the sake of content, to attract new subscribers, and get those precious likes.
The only connection to the outside world is a tiny tube through which Adi gets his oxygen.
There I was, underground, with no food or water, and Adi started torturing himself with a constant stream of thoughts in his head.
Three days later, just like they promised, no one came for him.
You'll see what his struggle for survival and the heavy psychological battle with his own 'self' will lead to in the movie.
The film reflects our modern reality in a pretty accurate way.
It's like a mirror to our digital paranoia, showing how far people will go for likes, attention, and fame.
People are so obsessed with being famous that they become slaves to their own ambitions and beliefs.
Even the risk of death isn't enough to stop them!
The strong psychological aspect of the film really stood out to me.
These blue screens, our phones, have become such a huge part of our daily lives.
We often get so caught up in them that we forget to notice the world around us.
As the main character is stuck in this isolated situation, he starts to experience some really intense emotions and feelings. He begins to question his actions and re-evaluate his life.
Can he ever escape this digital prison?
And if he does, will he still be the same person?
The movie's cinematography is quite dark, with plenty of dimly lit scenes.
The sound dynamics are on the middle ground.
I was kept on the edge of my seat, and I didn't feel like turning it off halfway through.
The music perfectly complemented the story - tense and unsettling, adding to the sense of unease and claustrophobia.
The actor's performance as the main character was incredibly realistic.
The sound of Adi's breathing underground added to the sense of presence.
In my opinion, the actor did an amazing job with his complex role.
I have to say, I really enjoyed the movie 'Buried Alive' for its thought-provoking theme, solid acting, realistic portrayal, and deep psychological undertones.
Yeah, the story's a bit dark, but I was definitely invested.
I wouldn't recommend watching this in a dark room, as it might amplify the sense of presence.
The movie left a lasting impression on me, and I think it's something that will make many people stop and think.
It shows the transformation of the main character's inner world, and you'll see exactly what that means when you watch the movie.
If you're extremely sensitive, I wouldn't recommend it, but if you enjoy psychological thrillers, then you're in for a treat!
I highly recommend checking it out.
Thanks for reading my review!
Have a great weekend and I'll catch you all later!
