A Birthday Bash with a View at Bosco Restaurant

summarizeEditor's Summary

I celebrated my birthday at Bosco Restaurant in Moscow and it was a truly unforgettable experience. Perched on the rooftop of the historic GUM department store, this upscale eatery offers breathtaking views of the Kremlin Square. The luxurious interior, complete with mosaic tiles and parquet floors, is the perfect backdrop for a special occasion. But what really stole the show was the exceptional service and delectable cuisine. I highly recommend Bosco for anyone looking to treat themselves to a truly unforgettable dining experience. With its convenient location within the GUM department store, stunning views, and luxurious interior, Bosco Restaurant is a must-visit for anyone looking to celebrate a special occasion in style.

I decided to celebrate my birthday in Moscow, and I had a weird craving - to stand on Red Square, look up at the beautiful clear sky, have a glass of wine, and think about all sorts of things. So, I said to myself, why not?
In the Moscow GUM, there's a pretty cool spot - the Bosco restaurant, its terrace overlooks the Kremlin Square. I'm inviting you to join me for a visit.
You can get to Bosco from the inside of the GUM or from the square side.
The restaurant has two levels, the VIP lounge and banquet area upstairs, and two regular rooms and a terrace downstairs. The interior is luxurious, in a classic European style: mosaic tile and parquet on the floor, gold-framed mirrors, tables set with white tablecloths, and plenty of live greenery around.
Right in the middle of the room, there's a huge piano, and a musician is playing some unobtrusive jazz tune behind it.
We didn't linger in the hall, I just wanted to sit on the terrace.
And the centerpiece of the terrace is a massive floral installation, with small wooden tables and chairs with blankets for coziness around it.
The weather was amazing - 20 degrees, sunny, no wind.
Looking at the menu, I realized that the restaurant specializes mainly in Italian cuisine, but there are also traditional Russian dishes and some author's cuisine.
There aren't any food pictures, but there are five-digit prices. For example, blini with caviar would cost us over 13 thousand. I didn't take a picture of the whole menu - if you're interested, you can find the list of dishes and prices on the restaurant's website.
I went for my favorite spaghetti carbonara with prawns and zucchini, and we also decided to try some Russian cuisine with beef patties and mushrooms. We ordered a glass of rosé to go with it.
Serve was brought out almost immediately, with a complimentary olive tapenade and a weird-looking bread in a glass. I loved the table setting, especially the beautiful ceramic plates.
We didn't have to wait too long for the food to arrive - about 15-20 minutes. The dishes were scorching hot.
Your health, guys! I caught a glimpse of the Kremlin wall in the glass.
So, what about the food?
The portions were a bit small, but just enough to fill me up. It was decent, but not exactly mind-blowing. My spaghetti was too greasy and salty, and by the end, I was having trouble finishing it. The prawns, on the other hand, were amazing.
The breadsticks were basically just flour and water, completely flavorless and dry. I would've preferred a garlic bread instead.
The beef patties were tender and juicy, with a great mushroom flavor, but the mashed potatoes were just plain and unremarkable.
I have to say, I only found out later on the website that the head chef here is Italian, so I guess that's why the pasta game is strong. Maybe I'm just not aware of all the nuances. The wine was great - just the right amount of acidity with a fruity twist. But let's be real, the main event here is the view of Red Square. We sat and watched the tourists stroll by, and I swear, Lenin's statue was just a stone's throw away.SERVICE WAS ON POINT: our server was super attentive, swapped out our utensils in a jiffy, and we never had to wait too long for our food.
What caught my eye was the uniform - the servers working on the patio had these fancy white jackets with bow ties, while the ones inside looked a bit more casual.
And then there was the bill - a cool 5,500 rubles for two of us. Not bad, not great - you be the judge. We could've left a tip via QR code, though.
Oh, and a shoutout to the ladies' room - it's a thing of beauty. I mean, who doesn't love a good, easily accessible restroom?
Takeaways:
Interior: 5+
Service: 5
Food: 4
View: 5+++ Definitely recommend. That's a wrap, folks!
