I've been hooked on coleus for a little while now, and by this spring, my whole house was basically one big garden. I wanted to share with you the most talked-about coleus this season - the 'Black Dragon'. This plant is truly beautiful. The leaves are super compact, like velvet, and have a really interesting shape. They're lacy, you know? As we all know, coleus really show off their colors when they get plenty of light. But when they're short on light, the color just gets dull. Well, 'Black Dragon' is different - its leaves are always this lovely shade of chocolate-brown. And when it gets sunlight, the color gets even deeper. Out of all the coleus I've got growing, 'Black Dragon' is the one that can handle direct sunlight like a pro. So, if you're thinking of planting it in your garden, you can definitely put it in a sunny spot. It's also super forgiving if you forget to water it from time to time - coleus are basically water-guzzlers, after all. The only downside is that these seeds are super finicky to germinate. I tried 15, and only 2 sprouted. I'm gonna try again when I'm at the cottage, and see if it makes a difference. Maybe the fresh air will help them grow better than they did in my apartment. I've never seen seeds like these from any other company. I've been growing coleus for a while now, and I've learned that they're not the easiest plants to get started. You've got to make sure the soil is just right, and the temperature is just so. But trust me, it's worth the extra effort.
