I've been dealing with poor eyesight since I was in school, and for a long time, I wore glasses. When my doctor finally gave me the green light to get contact lenses, I was over the moon. Many people can relate to the feeling of self-consciousness that comes with wearing glasses, especially during puberty. And, of course, there's the added stress of kids teasing you in school. Luckily, that wasn't my experience, but I still wanted to ditch the glasses and experience the world without them – without those boundaries.
My doctor initially prescribed me some contact lenses, which were pretty stiff, but I could wear them for up to six months, only taking them out at night. That was back in my 10th grade. After I moved to the city, started college, and eventually university, I began to crave something new. The lenses I was using at the time were okay, but they caused constant discomfort. I used Acuvue OASYS for years – they worked for me, but I always wanted to try something different. Plus, Acuvue lenses need to be replaced every two weeks, and I wanted something that would last longer.
After scouring the internet and reading reviews, I decided to give Biomedics 55 Evolution contact lenses a shot.
I bought these lenses from an online store called Ochkarik, and they cost me 920 rubles for a pack of six. Here's what the manufacturer promises:
Biomedics 55 Evolution contact lenses are all about delivering top-notch vision and an incredibly comfortable wearing experience. The aspheric design of these lenses ensures crisp, clear vision, even in low-light conditions, and reduces distortions and glare. Plus, the extra-thin, rounded edges of the lenses make them almost imperceptible on your eyes, giving you a sense of freshness all day long.
The packaging has all the necessary information on the back.
I was actually able to learn everything I wanted to know about these lenses from the website before I even made a purchase. I placed my order and just waited. By the way, the delivery person brought the package to my workplace, so if you're worried about paying online, you can pay in cash to the courier. The lenses themselves come in a blister pack with a preservative solution, which looks like this.
The lens itself is transparent, and I didn't even notice it at first.
But when I put them on, I immediately felt some discomfort. I took them off and put them back on several times because I felt like there was something foreign inside. Although I've been wearing lenses for a long time, I've never had any problems with putting them in before. My previous lenses were -5 diopters, and I could see clearly with those. But with these lenses, everything was blurry and double vision was a problem. The lenses themselves are quite dense.
After I switched to RENU solution, the discomfort when putting in the lenses was slightly reduced. However, the lenses still felt like they were drying out throughout the day and needed more moisture. Since I had six blister packs and a pair was supposed to last a month, I should have had enough for six months. But after just a couple of weeks, I was desperate to get rid of them and buy a new pair. Although I wore my previous lenses for longer than recommended without any issues.
After trying out these lenses, I came to one conclusion: it's better to pay more and get good quality lenses than to save money and end up with something like this.
I didn't find any positives about these lenses, except that they're cheap. Otherwise, they're all negatives. I didn't even wear the last pair for two weeks; I ordered my usual lenses from Acuvue instead.
The negatives I found with these lenses are:
- they're dense and hard to put in and take out,
- they don't have enough moisture,
- they cause constant discomfort,
- they don't let enough oxygen into your eyes (you'll feel like you need to blink constantly, and after taking them out, your eyes will feel irritated),
- when you look far away, everything will be blurry,
- they cause eye dryness.
I wouldn't recommend buying these; one star would be too generous.
