I recently watched Berlin Heat, and I have to say, it's a pretty intense show. The idea of a scientist giving a fanatic a magic wand that could destroy the world is a pretty scary concept. That's what the movie's all about - the bravery of our spies who did everything to prevent the Soviet Union from losing the atomic race, and the work of our atomic scientists.
The movie takes place in 1943 in Berlin and simultaneously in Moscow. The main character is Spanish native, Franz Hartmann, who's the manager of the Adlerhof hotel and also a double agent for our Bavarian spy agency.
Hartmann's got a tough mission ahead: get his hands on classified info about Germany's atomic research, led by physicist Werner Heisenberg. We've got intel that the Germans have made a breakthrough, so it's crucial we find out what they've achieved.
The production design is stunning, with sleek retro cars, scenes at the embassy, and in nature... The visual presentation is on a whole different level!
The portrayal of the noble spy created by Gela Meskhi really resonated with me. You can't help but feel for him, worry about him, and fear that everything is about to be exposed, and Hartmann will be caught. In the first episode, Hartman is in a tuxedo - he's basically the real-life James Bond.
I also enjoyed Shellenberg, who was brought to life by Filimonov. He's a clever fox, meticulously planning everything and trying to stay out of trouble. And in reality, he succeeds.
The beautiful love story between Hartman and Dori adds a nice touch to the film.
In the final episodes, the events really pick up pace and I found myself glued to the screen. And I'm really grateful to the creators for the ending. Usually, I love it when everything gets tied up neatly, but in the case of 'Berlin Heat', I'd rather leave some things open.
And in the end, 'Berlin Heat' turned out to be a really atmospheric and action-packed film. I'm also impressed by the cinematography and the talented cast.
