Hello everyone!
I'm still not sure how I ended up writing a review for a gin, but I guess it was meant to be. My husband got a bottle of Beefeater gin as a gift at his corporate party, and then it was his birthday, and we used it to serve our relatives, and then New Year's Eve... let's just say there were plenty of reasons to crack open the bottle. Before we knew it, the gin was gone, and my husband and I hadn't even really had a chance to try it.
So when we were at the Magnit supermarket for the Big Sale, we decided to pick up another bottle for ourselves. We found it in the strong spirits section and there it was, looking great on the shelf. It was on sale for 1700 rubles, which was a great deal if you ask me.
General Information
Where I bought it: Magnit
Price: 1700 rubles
Volume: 1 liter
Country of origin: United Kingdom
From the Manufacturer
There are many gins that call themselves 'London Dry', but Beefeater is the only one that's actually made in London. It stands out for its high quality, classic style, and great taste.
Packaging and Outer Appearance
It's a pretty big and heavy bottle made of crystal-clear glass. At first, I thought it was vodka when I saw Beefeater for the first time. I mean, who expects a gin to be that big and sturdy?
On a white background, there's a red Redcoat and... that's it. It seems like there's no connection between the Redcoat and meat, since 'beef' means beef from England. But there is a connection.
The Redcoats were nicknamed Beefeaters because they were privileged to eat meat from the king's table, while the common people had to make do with whatever they could find. It's a pretty cool piece of history, if you ask me.
The back of the bottle has a sticker with detailed information about the gin, but the description on the bottle itself is in English. It's a nice touch, but I wish it was in Russian too.
On the side, there are transparent letters that read 'BEEFEATER' and 'LONDON'. It's a nice design, but I'm not sure how much it adds to the overall experience.
The red cap comes off, and there's a certified seal that confirms the product's authenticity. It's a nice security measure, but I'm not sure how often it's actually used.
My Take on the Flavor and Aroma
I have to say, the unique recipe of Beefeater Gin is a real winner. With a blend of juniper berries, coriander, dill roots, almonds, lemon, and orange peels, among other ingredients sourced from around the world, this gin has a bold, citrusy flavor that's hard to resist.
Now, let's get to the good stuff - the contents of the bottle. When you twist off the cap, you're immediately hit with a whiff of spirit, which is to be expected given the gin's 47% ABV. But what follows is a complex aroma that's both earthy and citrusy, with hints of juniper and citrus.
The first sip is a bit of a shock, to be honest. It's strong, and I couldn't handle it on its own. But add a splash of Schweppes tonic, and suddenly the flavors come alive. It's like a match made in heaven - the gin and tonic are meant to be together.
With the tonic, the flavors really start to sing. The juniper and citrus notes are front and center, with a subtle sweetness from the Schweppes. It's a refreshing, revitalizing drink that's perfect for any occasion.
My Impressions
I was a bit skeptical about pairing the gin with food, but I was pleasantly surprised. I sliced up some salami and it paired surprisingly well, although it was gone all too quickly.
Next, I tried pairing it with some Camembert cheese. I have to admit, it was a bit of a stretch, but it actually worked quite well. The earthy flavors of the cheese complemented the gin nicely, and it was a nice change of pace.
One thing to note is that the gin is incredibly easy to drink. You can get caught up in the moment and forget that you're sipping on a 47% ABV spirit. That's both a blessing and a curse, as it can lead to a quick and unfortunate hangover.
Fortunately, we had the original product, which was of the highest quality. So, no regrets or regrets the next day - just a pleasant, refreshing drink that left me feeling satisfied.
One interesting fact: only 6 people in the world know the exact recipe for Beefeater Gin. I wonder what it takes to be part of that exclusive club.
The Verdict
I highly recommend giving Beefeater Gin a try. It's a well-established brand that's known for its quality, and for good reason. It's a great addition to any cocktail collection, and it's perfect for sipping on its own or mixing up a classic gin and tonic.
