A Beauty Salon That Left Me Feeling Mixed

summarizeEditor's Summary

I visited a salon in St. Petersburg that left me with mixed feelings. The modern ambiance and friendly staff were definite pluses, but the prices were steep. I booked a free trial visit for 1500 rubles, which was a good opportunity to try out their services. However, the full price for the procedure is 2500 rubles for 30 minutes, which is pricey compared to other salons in the area. Despite the high prices, the facilities were well-maintained, and the staff was welcoming. It's a decent option, but not worth the extra cost.

I recently visited a salon in my area, and my experience was a mixed bag.
I'd heard great things about this place from a friend, who raved about their massage. She'd been enthusiastic about her visit, but I was skeptical since I live a bit far from the location.
When I checked out the salon's website, I noticed they were offering a free trial visit for 1500 rubles, which I decided to take advantage of.
Full price for the procedure is 2500 rubles for 30 minutes. To put that in perspective, I usually spend 1500 rubles on a 60-minute facial with an alginate mask at a salon near my home in St. Petersburg.
Address: Medikov 10, Corp. 1 - it's not super close to the Petrogradskaya metro station, and parking can be a bit tricky.
After booking, I received SMS notifications from PILLI, a network of nail salons with locations all over the city. I'd only been to a PILLI salon once before, and it hadn't been a great experience, so I was a bit skeptical about this one too.
About the salon:
Everything about the salon is brand new and looks great - they've clearly invested in a nice setup.
The receptionist was friendly and handed me a contract with a lot of nice-looking print, but unfortunately, a lot of what was written there didn't quite match reality.
They offered tea, coffee, and a cooler, and the bathroom was also nicely decorated.
They took me to a small dressing room where I could change into a robe, which was a nice touch.
Then they took me to a shared room where they could do procedures for up to 6 people at a time. I'd been to salons before, but this one made me feel a bit uneasy - it's not exactly the most relaxing atmosphere.
My therapist came in with a little folder with my name and last name in big letters, and she did a quick survey and spoke quietly, but I could barely hear her through the mask - I had to ask her to repeat herself a few times.
I had a hard time relaxing and felt like they were actively trying to sell me more stuff, which wasn't exactly what I was looking for.
But, to their credit, they didn't try to rip me off - that's a plus.
The facial massage itself was nice, and they use creams, not oil, which I appreciated. They explained everything they were doing, and the chairs were super comfy - nothing hurt.
They didn't try to sell me anything extra, and they even complimented my skin and told me that 90% of my problems could be solved with good skincare at home, which I appreciated.
One thing that did bother me was that they don't accept card payments, which is a bit inconvenient.
The verdict:
This salon has a beautiful new setup with comfy chairs, but something's off - it's hard to shake the feeling that they're trying to take advantage of you.
The massage was good, but 2500 rubles for 30 minutes feels a bit steep.
No card payments, which is a hassle.
I didn't feel like coming back, and I wouldn't recommend it to my friends - if you're curious, you can try the free trial visit and then decide for yourself.

Is the salon worth the extra cost?

While the salon has its perks, I'd say it's not worth the extra cost. There are other salons in St. Petersburg that offer similar services at a lower price.

You can book a free trial visit on the salon's website or by contacting them directly. They'll send you an SMS notification with all the details.
