We've been to Balaklava in Crimea multiple times, but we've always just stopped by for a quick visit or to grab a bite to eat, since we often stay in Laspis and there's not much to do there. The town has a really beautiful waterfront with yachts that I've never seen before in my life. There are super expensive, guarded boats that you're not even allowed to take pictures of, and the security guards are right there, too. Plus, there are catamarans and sailboats for rent.
Balaklava Crimea reviewsBalaklava has a really unique, laid-back atmosphere that's perfect for taking a leisurely stroll and admiring the yachts. Most visitors seem to enjoy that. In the evenings during the summer, there are tons of people hanging out in cafes, walking around, and taking photos.
Balaklava Crimea reviewsRight now, the waterfront is undergoing some renovations, so I wasn't able to take a full tour of the area. But I'm looking forward to seeing the finished result.
Balaklava Crimea photosThe main tourist street in Balaklava is right in the center of town, near the port. You can take a stroll down the street, grab a bite to eat at a cafe, and check out the shops and souvenir stalls. There's also a nice waterfront area along the Nazukin street with cafes, shops, and hotels.
Balaklava Crimea reviewsThey've also got some really nicely decorated benches with souvenir stands.
Balaclava Crimea ReviewsI was blown away by the stunning pinkish lighting – we weren't here out of season, so it was a real treat. We even stopped off here on our wedding day at the stunning Foros Church, as there were loads of great photographers and makeup artists in Balaclava, plus some amazing churches to visit for a service – it's a real hub in the area.
Balaclava Crimea ReviewsThis summer, we stumbled upon Balaclava while searching for a decent dinner – we'd been staying in Laspie for ages and were getting a bit fed up with the same old food. We took a stroll along the waterfront and were blown away by the place – it's definitely worth a visit, even if it's just for a day or two.
Balaclava Crimea ReviewsThere are loads of hotels and guesthouses in Balaclava – when we stayed here overnight, we easily found a cheap and cozy apartment through Avito, and you can also book directly or through a booking service. There are hotels on every corner in the centre.
Balaclava Crimea ReviewsThe waterfront has a lovely laid-back atmosphere, even in the summer – everyone's just strolling along, taking in the sights, and the scale and number of yachts is just incredible.
Balaklava Crimea reviewsI took a sunset cruise to the Crimea coast, and I highly recommend doing it during the day so you can take in all the sights. You can book a yacht in advance or arrange a trip right at the dock - the rental fee starts at around 5,000 rubles per hour.
Balaklava Crimea reviewsWe grabbed some ice cream and drinks from a vendor on the waterfront while we waited for our orders at a cafe. Be aware that there are some major issues with internet connectivity and online payments in Crimea, including QR code payments. It's a good idea to bring cash for purchases to avoid any hassle - credit cards may not work either.
Balaklava Crimea reviewsThere are a few restaurants and cafes right on the water, with prices that are pretty reasonable:

Balaklava Crimea photosThe fishing nets and sea air create a really picturesque atmosphere.
Balaklava Crimea reviewsWe also stumbled upon an open deck restaurant in the shape of a ship called the Prince Restaurant. My kid asked me, 'Why are all the guys going to this ship?' We kind of regretted ordering food already, it would've been interesting to check it out.
Balaklava Crimea reviewsOn the other side of the bay, there are also hotels, which really surprised me. And I saw a big tunnel, I wonder where it leads!
Balaklava Crimea reviewsThere are plenty of cafes and restaurants along the first line of the shore, as well as a short walk away on the promenade. If you want a table with a great view, it's best to book in advance.
Balaklava Crimea reviewsThe promenade has a ton of small shops selling snacks and drinks. One entire display case is dedicated to 'takeaway' nuts in small packaging, which I've never seen before - I guess there's a demand for it!
Balaklava Crimea reviewsThere are plenty of different Crimean beer options:
Balaclava Crimea reviewsAs I strolled along the waterfront, I couldn't help but be mesmerized by the sailboats arriving and departing in the evening. The path stretches for a while, offering a glimpse of the open sea. Balaclava's unique shape is visible on the map, and it's a must-visit destination.
Balaclava Crimea reviewsWe spent hours walking along the waterfront, and I regretted not visiting the central waterfront sooner. The sunsets are breathtaking, with a fairy-tale-like quality to them. We usually came here for work, but it's definitely worth a visit for the atmosphere – you won't find anything like it elsewhere.
Balaclava Crimea reviewsIt's a good idea to allocate some time for a boat tour around the area or a full-day visit to explore the city. Balaclava is a stunning town on the southwestern coast of Crimea, and it's a must-see destination. You'll be left with unforgettable memories and new emotions from the unique atmosphere.

Balaklava Crimea reviewsWhen we were leaving Balaklava, I noticed that even in the city center, there are different shelters and pillboxes, which, of course, didn't make me feel great. But that's how it is everywhere in the western part of Crimea... Starting from the Crimean Bridge to YUBK, I didn't see anything like this, and closer to Foros and up the Baidarskaya Valley, anti-war safety begins to kick in, which is a bit surreal... Balaklava is literally covered in pillboxes and shelters, starting from the highway. And the city center isn't an exception.
