AlphaPet WOW Adult Dry Cat Food with Duck and Organs

I've tried a bunch of different cat foods, but AlphaPet's WOW Adult Dry Cat Food is the real deal. It's got all the nutrients my adult cat needs, and the fact that it's made with real duck and organs is a major win. My cat loves the taste, and I love that it's super good for her. The unique blend of ingredients in AlphaPet WOW supports her overall health and well-being, and I've noticed a big difference since switching.

Don't be Fooled: AlphaPet Cat Food Review

summarizeEditor's Summary

I've been feeding my cat AlphaPet cat food for a year now, and I've got some mixed feelings about it. At first, I thought it was a decent option, but as I dug deeper, I found some major drawbacks. My cat seems to like the taste, but I'm not convinced it's the best value for money. The vendor's sneaky tactics with the ingredient list really stand out - it's easy to get caught up in the marketing hype. I'd say AlphaPet cat food is an okay choice, but it's not without its flaws. I've noticed that the company's customer support is pretty non-existent, and the return policy is super confusing. Overall, I'm not sure if AlphaPet cat food is worth the money - it's an okay choice, but I'm not convinced it's the best value for money.

I've noticed that pet food prices are skyrocketing, and some popular brands are disappearing from store shelves. Choosing the right diet for your cat is a major concern for many of us.
AlphaPet is a Russian-made product, and it's not going anywhere anytime soon. It has a pretty impressive range of options and can cater to both cats and their owners with various tastes and budgets.
My cat has been gobbling up this food for a year now, and I've got some stories to share.
At first glance, the food seems decent, but upon closer inspection, you'll spot a multitude of drawbacks.
One thing that really stands out is the vendor's sneaky tactics with the ingredient list, which might fly under the radar for some. I ended up buying a year's worth of supplies, and I regretted it.
This review will provide a thorough breakdown of the ingredients and a quality check.
✅MAIN INFO:
Price: ~3000-3400 rubles for 7 kg.
Manufacturer: OAO "NPKT", Russia.
Class: super-premium, but that's debatable.
I bought it on Ozon
350 kcal/100 grams.

✅ COMPOSITION:
The composition is full of tricks, but the most blatant one is the vendor's tactics with the meat content.
Dried meat is indeed included in the total number of meat ingredients, or else the percentage would be over 100.
Meat ingredients 41.5%+ Dried poultry meat 29%+ wheat 15%+ rice 15% = 100.5%.
And that's not even the whole composition.
Meat ingredients 41.5%, including fresh meat 10% (duck, fresh pork by-products),dried meat of domestic poultry 29%,wheat,rice 15%,dried beet pulp, animal fat, hydrolyzed chicken liver, yellow peas,vitamin-mineral mix, brewer's yeast, fish oil,AlphaPetBIO complex (green-lipped mussel, calendula, dandelion, flaxseed, chicory, bilberry, Yucca schidigera, rosemary), taurine, DL-methionine, antioxidant.Show quote
➜ Meat component.
I was expecting a higher meat content, but it's actually 41.5%. I think this is a decent amount, but not as high as some other brands.
The meat is dehydrated chicken, probably a mix with some turkey. There's also a small amount of raw meat at 10% - that's a nice touch.
What's really important is that the meat content isn't 70.5%, like some other brands claim. In fact, it's 41.5, which is still a good amount.
Interestingly, if you look at the same brand but with chicken as the main ingredient, the meat content is actually higher - 44.5.
➜ Carbohydrate source.
The carbohydrates come from wheat and rice. Let's be real, wheat has no nutritional value for cats. It's just filler, and it's also allergenic. Rice is a bit better, but it's still not great.
Wheat and rice are only absorbed at 60%. The manufacturer doesn't even disclose how much wheat is in there, which is really frustrating.
How much grain is in this food?
I think there's more wheat than rice, and it's probably around 20%. That would mean 35% of the food is grain, with only 41.5% meat. This food is basically just a meat-based bread.
➜ Chicken liver hydrolysate.
They add this as a flavor enhancer, which is usually around 5% of the total content. It's in almost every cat food, so it's not a big deal.
➜ AlphaPetBIO complex.
This is a decent complex, but its percentage is really low - around 2%. It's listed after the vitamins and brewer's yeast, which is a bit concerning.
With 0.25% of each component, it's basically useless for any preventive effect, as claimed.
Blueberries are a great component for preventing kidney stones. They acidify the urine, which prevents stones from forming. On the other hand, grains have an alkalizing effect, so the higher the meat content, the better.
0.25% of dried blueberries is basically a joke.
.
➜ Vitamins and minerals.
I'm not a fan of the calcium to phosphorus balance, which is 1.52.
This is considered a high ratio, especially for preventing kidney stones. I wouldn't feed this food to a cat with existing problems or even a predisposition.
My cat is spayed, which is a predisposition to kidney stones. Now I'll definitely be paying attention to this ratio before making a purchase.
The American Association of Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) recommends the following maximum amounts and ratios of calcium and phosphorus: ideally 1.1-1.3 (Ca)
One thing that really stood out to me was the lack of vitamins in the food. The vitamin A and E content is extremely low.
✅ I've got to give them credit for the guaranteed analysis.
But the protein content is a bit of a letdown. The 30% of protein is below the international standard.
And of course, that includes the plant-based protein from grains, which cats have a hard time digesting.
The ash content is fine, the fat content is 9% - it's passable.
Actually, a good food for neutered cats should have around 10-15% fat.
According to the GOST, the content of ash and cellulose can be extremely high, so even if you're close to the maximum allowed, it's considered high.
Unlike dogs, fat isn't the primary source of energy for cats. The process by which predators get glucose from non-carbohydrate compounds is called gluconeogenesis. Let me clarify, cats get their energy from protein (amino acids), not carbs - something a lot of people don't know!
Show quote
There's way too much carbs - 42%.
✅ The packaging is another story.
The packaging is made of plastic and doesn't have a zip-lock closure for easy storage, even on 7 kg packs. I store a small amount of food in a separate container, which lasts me for a couple of weeks.
I then secure the packaging with a paper clip so the contents don't get stale.
On the packaging, there are a lot of catchy phrases like: the food meets physiological norms, prevents kidney stones, 75% meat protein.
Regarding the prevention of kidney stones in this food, I've already written that it's completely out of the question.
As for meeting physiological norms, I'm not buying it. Do lions and tigers graze in wheat fields in the wild?
These phrases are not regulated by law and don't mean anything.
✅ The external appearance and smell are another plus.
The aroma is strong and rich with a slight bitterness. The granules are small in size, light brown in color, and slightly moist to the touch. They're moderately fatty. On the taste, they're mildly salty with a slight bitterness. The texture is dense but not dry.
The granule size is just right, so your cat will have to work at it and won't just swallow it whole. This is essential for maintaining healthy teeth and gums.
✅ The quality check is another plus.
I conducted an experiment with the ALphaPet food, but with chicken instead. I think the difference will be negligible, so I'll include the results in this review as well.
The results of the experiment are in the quote below.
I decided to do a little experiment with the food, and for the sake of comparison, I took the leftover supplies of Holistic Petdiets. It also contains grains, but in the form of whole rice.
The meat component is around 65-70%.
As a result of the test with water, as they say on the internet, the food with a lot of meat should sink within 10-15 minutes.
But neither AlphaPet nor Petdiets sank even after half an hour. I think the result depends more on the density of the granules than on the meat component.
But you can tell a lot by the cloudiness of the water and the sediment.
The water in the AlphaPet cup immediately clouded up, and sediment appeared. Within 20 minutes, the situation got even worse. In contrast, the Holistic Petdiets showed little change.
The sediment was non-uniform, powdery, with dark specks. Maybe it's chicory, dandelion, or calendula?
There were no oil droplets on the surface of the water. That's weird, considering the ingredients include fish and animal oils.
Moreover, the soaked Holistic Petdiets granules expanded less when compared to the same initial granule size.
I think this experiment says a lot about the quality of the raw materials. They've added a lot of flour, not necessarily high-quality whole grains.
Also, the soaked granule is less dense and more prone to empty spaces.
ὃ0 WHISKER WONDER.
My cat was in heaven as soon as I opened the package, and even meows with delight during meals. He gobbles up both flavors equally well, whether it's duck or chicken. If there's a difference, it's negligible to him.
I have to say, not every food delights him, and some he simply refuses or eats with great reluctance.
I give him the standard portion, but within half an hour, he's asking for more. He's not satisfied, and the food, it seems, is tasty but doesn't fill him up completely.
The food hasn't caused any allergies or issues. My cat is active and in good spirits.
✅ FINAL VERDICT.
I'm not sure if the food meets the claimed class, as it contains wheat and falls short of the international protein standard. It's probably somewhere in between super-premium and premium.
I'm also not a fan of the vitamin and mineral balance, as well as the calcium and phosphorus ratio. However, overall, the food is decent.
The food won't prevent kidney disease, so I only recommend it for healthy animals.
✅ My cat loves it and eats it with gusto.
✅ Decent meat content.
✅ The granule size really helps prevent dental problems.
❌ The meat content is decent, but it's lacking in protein. I'm not sure what to make of the quality, but it's clear they're using meat with bones, skin, and sinew.
❌ There's way too much sugar in this stuff.
❌ My cat's not satisfied with the standard serving size.
❌ It doesn't do what it claims to do in terms of preventing certain health issues.
❌ It's also lacking in some essential vitamins.
