Specifications
As the holiday season gets closer, I'm itching to dive into the festive atmosphere. We've already started reading our holiday books, and I'm on the hunt for some new additions to our collection for Christmas and New Year's.
This book, "All About Ded Morozovka", published by Rosmen, would make a great gift for kids on New Year's. I'm sure many of you have already heard of it and have the series at home, but if you've missed out on these fun stories about snowmen and Ded Moroz, I'd say it's worth checking out. This is a collection of five books about Ded Morozovka, minus the final part, "Summer in Ded Morozovka". You can find a review of that one here.
The collection is really colorful, with lots of bright, large illustrations. They were created by the famous Soviet illustrator V. Chizhikov, and the design was done by another artist, E. Zdorovnova.
The cover is a sturdy, glossy A4 format, and the book itself is 448 pages, weighing in at 1240 grams.

In the first book, "School of Snowmen", Ded Moroz decides to create some helpers - snowmen and snowgirls. After that, his life is turned upside down.
The snowmen all get names and go to school, making friends with the villagers. Ded Moroz and Snegurochka, who becomes a teacher for the snowmen, don't have a moment's peace.

The second part, "Wonders in Ded Morozovka", continues to introduce us to the snowmen's adventures. They behave just like regular kids - they're friends, get into trouble, invent things, and even save Ded Moroz.

I'm not as big a fan of the third part, "Olympic Village Dedmorozovka", where the snowmen are hosting their own Olympics. As they get ready, they come up with all sorts of new sports like figure drawing, dog sled racing, and so on.

The next part, "Santa's Post", is a bit of a letdown in terms of snowman stories.
It's about Santa Claus's uncle, who Santa visits, and it also tells you who comes to visit kids on Christmas in other countries. My kid loved the part about the snow dinosaur coming to life. Snow dinosaur

The fifth book, "Iceberg Journey", is about the snowmen's adventures with Ded Moroz on a cruise ship ice berg.
My thoughts:
I like that this book lets you meet all the parts of Dedmorozovka at once. Reading these fun, kind, and sometimes educational stories to my kid takes me back to my own childhood and the magic of the holiday season.
My only complaint is that I'm not a fan of the snowman designs by Chizhikov. I grew up reading his books, and for me, it's a nostalgic thing - I loved his characters.
But, to be honest, we got the books about Ded Moroz from Samovar Publishing first, and I have to say, I like the main characters' designs better. Here's a comparison photo: Snowmen by artist Alexander Amira A Snow Maiden without puffed-up cheeks, like Chizhikov's This Ded Moroz design is more to my liking Any of these options would make a great gift for yourself and the kids on New Year's!
If you want to get into the holiday spirit, I'd suggest checking out the animated film Petson and Findus: The Best Christmas Ever
