Alpha Bank Buy Now, Pay Later Credit Card

I've got a credit card that's a total game-changer - the Alpha Bank Buy Now, Pay Later Credit Card. It's all about flexibility: you can buy now and pay later, no stress. Perfect for those who want to enjoy life's little luxuries without breaking the bank. With deferred payments, you can pay when it suits you best.

My First Credit Card Experience with Alfa-Bank: Separating Fact from Fiction

summarizeEditor's Summary

I'll admit, I'm not a fan of loans or credit cards, mainly because borrowing money often means giving up your own stuff eventually, with a pretty hefty interest rate to boot. My own credit history isn't exactly spotless, but I've managed to avoid any late payments or penalties from the bank. Getting a credit card from Alfa Bank was a bit of a leap of faith for me, but I was pleasantly surprised with the experience. The application process was smooth, and the card itself looks sleek. However, I do have some reservations about the rewards program and customer support. The interest rates are competitive, which is a big plus for someone like me who's trying to manage their debt. I've been using the card for a few months now, and I've noticed that the build quality is solid, with a sturdy feel and nice design. The online portal can be a bit finicky at times, but customer support has been responsive and helpful. I'm still figuring out the best way to use this card, but overall, it's been a decent experience.

My First Credit Card Experience with Alfa-Bank: Separating Fact from Fiction
I'll admit, I'm not a fan of loans or credit cards, mainly because borrowing money often means giving up your own stuff eventually, with a pretty hefty interest rate to boot. My own credit history isn't exactly spotless, but I've managed to avoid any late payments or penalties from the bank.
To be honest, I'm still not entirely sure what prompted me to get a credit card from Alfa Bank - I've never had one before, and Alfa Bank isn't exactly the kind of place I'd normally rush to. But, I guess that's where my credit history with them started. It's funny, thinking back on it...
Anyway, I just saw an ad online, went to the bank's official website, and filled out the application. The slogan 'Вместо денег' (which roughly translates to 'Instead of Money') seemed to do the trick.
Fast forward a couple of days, and I had my credit card from Alfa Bank's 'Вместо денег' program in hand. I have to say, I'm pretty pleased with how the card looks:
After applying online, I got a call from an operator within an hour or so (keep in mind it was a weekend), who asked me a few follow-up questions and politely wrapped up the call. A little while later, I received an SMS with the details of when and where I could collect my card.
I've got to give you a heads up on one thing: if you're after a named card and the perks that come with it (although, let's be real, the only real benefit is being able to use the card abroad), be prepared to wait a bit, as it takes an age to get it made (around a week, max). If you're after a standard card like mine, you can go ahead and get it once it's been approved.
As for the approved credit limit on my card, it's 50,000 rubles:
I've heard people say that the bank can be a bit stingy, but from what I've seen, they're not too bad. Of course, it's all relative, but considering this isn't a credit card, but a repayment card, and 50,000 rubles interest-free isn't just lying around, I think this card is a real find. Plus, the maximum credit limit is 100,000 rubles.
Now, about the documents required for getting the credit card repayment from Alfa-bank. For me, the document package consisted of two things: my Russian passport and my SNILS number. If you want a higher credit limit on your card, you'll need to provide a certificate 2 - NDFL as well.
About the fines for late payment:
About the interest rate for late payment:
I wanted to confirm that the card is absolutely free - I haven't paid a single ruble for it, and there's no annual subscription fee either. The card's validity period is 5 years (obviously, it depends on how you'll be paying for the products on credit, i.e., the bank may reduce the limit or block the card if you're late with payments, but if you show good credit behavior, they might increase the limit).
Payment Terms
Using the Alpha Bank 'Instead of Money' credit card (and that day will come, even if you don't need it), you won't have to stick to the usual payment schedule. The payment date here is the card issuance date - not the date of purchase. In other words, your monthly payment due date will be the same as the card issuance date.
Here's an example:
I, of course, used the card: the usual drill - we accidentally walked into M-Video, and there were those massive discounts to celebrate the store's 25th anniversary... It's clear that I wouldn't leave empty-handed. So, I ended up buying a new fridge.
I got the card on May 12th. I bought the fridge on May 13th (yes, the next day... I didn't need the credit card for long).
So, my first payment is due no later than July 12th. The monthly payment amount is evenly distributed across the months the bank has allocated for you.
Mobile App
I was impressed by how easy it is to track your payments, remaining balance, and transaction history with their mobile app. It's like having a personal assistant at your fingertips!
One of the best features is the ability to see which stores and services are partners with Alpha Bank. This means you can enjoy longer payment plans when shopping at these merchants.
Let me give you a simple example. Suppose you want to buy a coat. If you shop at a store that's not a partner with Alpha Bank, you'll only get a payment plan of 4 months. But, if you shop at a partner store, you can enjoy a payment plan of up to 24 months.
So, with the credit card with payment plans from Alpha Bank, you can use it at any store (even your grandma's shop if she has a terminal!) for the minimum payment plan of 4 months. However, if the store is a partner with the bank, you can enjoy longer payment plans, ranging from 4 months to 24 months.
Not-So-Great Part
Some people might say that hidden fees are everywhere, and they're right!
Let me explain.
I took a look at my account after using the card, and I have to say, I was shocked by the mysterious transaction labeled as "UNKNOWN CATEGORY". It was 396 rubles.
I'll be honest, when I was signing up for this card, the representative from Alfa Bank assured me that it's absolutely free and doesn't have any hidden fees. They looked me straight in the eye and told me that with a sweet, angelic voice.
After seeing the transaction in my account, I decided to give the bank a call to clear things up. It turned out that the "unknown category" was just an insurance fee. I'm still not entirely sure what it's for or who it's for, but I opted out of it over the phone. As it turns out, you can actually do that: just call the hotline and ask them to remove it.
A few days later, I got an SMS saying that the insurance fee had been refunded, and when I checked my account, I saw this:
As you can see from the photo, the 396 rubles were refunded.
The Verdict: overall, I'm happy with the Alfa Bank credit card Vostok instead of money. First of all, it's a genuine buy now, pay later deal, not a credit card with interest rates. Secondly, you can use the card to pay in any store, even in some dodgy places. And thirdly, the card is really convenient to use!
Thanks for reading, and happy shopping without any hidden surprises!
