I'll be the first to admit it - after having my second kid, I was stressing about how I'd afford a family vacation, let alone flights to the beach. The thought of saving up for a trip seemed daunting, especially with two little ones to care for.

That's when it hit me: why not start accumulating miles for flights? I'd known about the concept for ages, but never thought it applied to me. I mean, I'm not a frequent flyer, and I don't have a corporate job to rack up miles. But, I thought, why not give it a shot?

Aeroflot was the first airline that came to mind. I registered on their website and discovered that anyone can join their loyalty program - no high-rollers or corporate types required! I was relieved to learn that I could earn miles without breaking the bank.

Signing up was a breeze, but to earn miles, I needed to get a bank card from one of their partner banks. That's when things got a bit tricky: I had to choose between a debit or credit card. Since my goal was to save, not spend, I opted for a debit card. The catch? I had to use it for all my purchases. I was a bit hesitant at first, but my husband was on board with the idea, and we decided to make it work.

I applied for the card, and a few days later, I picked it up at the bank. My husband even started using it for our joint expenses, like groceries and gas. We made a conscious effort to use the card for all our daily purchases, and it wasn't long before we started seeing the miles roll in.

The Aeroflot website has a wealth of information on their loyalty program, including how to earn and redeem miles. It's pretty straightforward - I was able to figure it out with ease. I liked that the interface was user-friendly and the instructions on how to use my miles were clear.

In the first month, I accumulated around 4,000 miles just from using my card for everyday purchases. The second month was similar, adding another 4,000 miles. By the third month, I'd racked up a whopping 11,698 miles. All my earned miles are displayed on the Aeroflot website in my personal account.

Miles are credited to your account once a month, on the date you opened your bank card. The amount depends on your total spending for the month. I was worried that I'd have to spend a fortune to earn miles, but it turns out that's not the case. Even with moderate spending, I was able to earn a decent amount of miles.

I'm hoping to redeem some of these miles for a family vacation next summer. Fingers crossed I'll be able to afford it without breaking the bank! My husband and I are excited to see where our miles will take us.
