My cat's got a super sensitive stomach, and this AlphaPet SP wet food has been a total lifesaver. It's made with duck and cranberry sauce, which is easy on the stomach and tastes amazing. My cat goes wild for the flavor, and I love that it's packed with nutrients too. Editor's Summary

I'm a bit torn about this unique wet food - it's got some great features, but the lid falls short. My fussy cat loves the divide-and-conquer approach, which makes mealtime a breeze. The kibble is well-sized, and the flavors are top-notch. However, the lid can be a bit finicky, and I've had to wrestle with it a few times. Still, the benefits outweigh the drawbacks, and I'd recommend it to anyone with a finicky eater. Plus, the value for money is excellent - it's a great option for those on a budget.

Hello everyone!

I'm super excited to share my experience with a new food for my super finicky cat. I've been eyeing this AlphaPet food for sensitive digestion with duck and cranberry sauce for a while now, and I'm glad I finally got to try it out.

Overview

Here are the details about this food:

• Brand: AlphaPet

• For: cats with sensitive digestion

• Claimed class: super premium

• Flavor: duck and cranberry

• Shelf life: 12 months

• Weight: 80 grams

• Country of origin: Russia

• Where to buy: Four Paws, marketplaces (Ozoon, Wildberries, Yandex.Market).

• Price: on marketplaces, the food is sold in packs of 15 pieces for 1150-1500 rubles, at Four Paws, one package (80 grams) costs 89 rubles.

• I bought the food at Four Paws for 89 rubles.

Description

As a pet owner, my top priority is my pet's health and well-being. I love that the team at AlphaPet creates and produces high-quality Holistic food, giving me peace of mind when choosing the right food for my cat.

AlphaPet Superpremium is a premium pet food made with natural ingredients. The range of food for pets who want to be sure they're making the best choice for their pet. The transparent and easy-to-understand composition, prepared using innovative technology from fresh meat and containing over 90% meat protein!

Ingredients

Meat pieces: fresh meat and offal - 90% (including duck, chicken), cranberry, rice, vitamin and mineral mix, AlphaPetBIO complex (green-lipped mussel, calendula, dandelion, flaxseed, chicory, cranberry, yucca Schidigera, rosemary).

Sauce: broth, thickeners, amino acids.

Content of nutrients per kg:

Raw protein 10%, raw fat 4%, raw fiber 0.3%, ash 1.5%, moisture 81%.

Added substances

Vitamin A – min. 7500 ME/kg, vitamin D – min. 750 ME/kg, vitamin E – min. 20 mg/kg, taurine – min. 670 mg/kg.

Nutritional value per 100g:

86 kcal/362 kJ.

For me, the composition of the food is the top priority. So, when choosing, I pay attention to it first. In my opinion, a high-quality composition is one of the key factors in a pet's health.

I want to note that I've never seen a manufacturer list the sauce composition separately. This already deserves separate praise.

Despite the fact that the food is claimed to be super premium, there are still some things that concern me:

I'm not entirely satisfied with the ingredient "fresh meat and offal," which only mentions that it includes duck and chicken. I would have liked to see a comprehensive list of what's in this ingredient and their percentage content.

I was pleased to see that the sauce composition is listed separately, but the composition itself didn't impress me:

I started with the broth, but I'm missing an explanation of what kind of broth it is and what ingredients are used. At least, I'd like to hope that only water and bones with meat are used, but the lack of clarification leaves a lot to the imagination.

Then come the thickeners, but again, no indication of what specific thickeners are used, which doesn't exactly fill me with confidence.

The food composition is decent, but I always get a bit uneasy with these "surprise" components. Especially since this is a premium food, I'd like to see a completely transparent list of ingredients.

Packaging

The packaging consists of two black plastic containers that are connected together. The containers have an elongated shape.

The containers are closed with a tight lid that has information about the food on it. One side shows the composition of the food.

The other side shows information about the manufacturer and feeding recommendations.

The back side shows the production date and the expiration date.

When I saw the perforation between these two containers, I initially thought I'd have trouble opening the packaging, since the top and bottom perforation was deeper, and the middle one was almost invisible and not fully cut.

But splitting the packaging into two parts caused no issues at all. One half of the packaging contains 1 serving of food, 40 grams.

However, I did find a drawback. The manufacturer left us with this alleged corner for opening the food. I tried to pry it open with a nail, a knife, but nothing worked. I even tried to scrape it off. No, it's stuck on there for good. And what's the point of the arrow, then?

In general, you'll have to open it with a knife or scissors. You won't be able to remove it under any circumstances.

Food

Inside the packaging, we have food pieces in a sauce. The smell hits you right away. It's intense, smells natural, but not very pleasant, in my opinion.

The sauce isn't too much. It's a reddish-brown color, and you can see small chunks of food in it.

The food itself is made up of chunks of all different sizes - from tiny to big. There are some that aren't very neat, like they're torn or already chewed up.

My cat's verdict

I bought this food for my most finicky cat. She loves it when I open a new bag, she always runs over and watches as I open it, as I scoop it out. But then she'll literally sniff it once and walk away, deciding she doesn't want to eat it. Then the food gets tossed or offered to the other cat.

At first, my cat went through the usual rejection routine. She sniffed the food a couple of times and then walked away. I thought, okay, no big deal, she's not going to eat it and I'm already thinking about how the other cat will love the new food.

But I decided not to rush things and left the food out for her to access. She didn't touch it for an hour or an hour and a half, only occasionally coming over to sniff it, but not even trying to lick it.

Eventually, she decided to give it a try. First, she went for the sauce, then the chunks. She ate most of the serving in one go, leaving about 10 grams behind.

So, the test of a finicky cat, the food passed. By the way, I noticed that one serving is enough to keep her full for a pretty long time after, until she goes back to eating dry food.

There were no allergic reactions to the food, no vomiting, no changes in stool. And no stomach rumbling (she gets that from wet food sometimes) either.

My verdict

First of all, I've been eyeing this food in Four Paws for a while now. It caught my attention with its unusual packaging for a wet food. I even thought it was some kind of treat at first, but it was in the wet food section.

The packaging is convenient for those who give their pets a portioned meal. I usually cut the packet in half, but this 'lid'... it's just terrible. Not only does it not stick in place and you have to use some makeshift tool to open it, but it also comes off in pieces, and you have a huge chance of spilling the sauce on yourself (it's happened to me a few times).

So, the idea behind the packaging is good, but it's been poorly executed.

I was a bit taken aback by the partially disclosed ingredients, more specifically the sauce. There are some questions.

As for the price, 89 rubles for 80 grams of premium food is a pretty normal price, especially considering the current prices for food. Of course, you can find cheaper options in the same segment. I think the price is what it is due to the packaging.

I'm not sure if I'll switch my cat to this food full-time, but I do think I'll pick it up occasionally. It's cheaper than her Grandin pâté, which is a plus, especially since the price has gone up lately. That being said, the ingredient list is more transparent, but it's not a holistic food.

I'd say the good things about this food are:

the packaging is an interesting idea;it's easy to divide the food into two portions;it has a natural smell;the ingredient list is decent;it agrees with even the pickiest of eaters.
The not-so-good things are:

the ingredient list could be more detailed;the lid is terrible.

My verdict

I'd recommend the AlphaPet food with duck and cranberry sauce for sensitive stomachs.
