I've got a soft spot for Anna Jane's books. I mean, I'm not usually into those high school romance stories, but sometimes I just want to indulge in a fairytale-like love story. And Anna Jane's books are great for unwinding!
I've already read four of her books, and I decided to grab two more from the same series. The first one is 'Your Heart Will Be Broken'. I devoured the story in no time... Despite being a substantial 500-page book, it's super easy and quick to read!
I bought the book on vB. It cost me around 150 rubles. I opted for the cover with the ice heart design. The cover is pretty cool, and it really caught my eye when I was browsing through the books.
A little about the plot
The plot is pretty straightforward, but it still manages to hook you. I love how it unfolds... It's smooth, yet engaging and dynamic! The story's about a girl named Polina who moves to a new city with her mom and stepdad. She's a complete stranger in this new place, and it's hard for her to make friends.
Things start off well for Polina at school. She even finds some friends and starts hanging out with them. However, due to a certain incident, the whole class starts bullying her... Almost everyone, that is. It would've continued if Dima hadn't stepped in. Dima's a local hero at school, and everyone listens to him. So, the teasing stops once he intervenes.
Dima decides to help Polina for reasons beyond just being a good Samaritan. But, I'll leave that for you to discover in the book...
The Main Characters
I really love how the author develops her characters. Take Polina, for example. She's a sweet and kind girl who's been through some tough times, but she still manages to stay optimistic and help others. She's also super funny and entertaining to read about. I was immediately drawn to her.
Then there's Dima, the local bad boy. At first, he comes across as a troublemaker, but as the story unfolds, we get to see a more vulnerable side of him. He's got a lot of depth, and I found myself feeling a little sorry for him. He's also got a sweet side, which made me love him even more.
My Impressions
I've already read two series from this author, and I was excited to dive into a new one. When I saw that this series was on sale, I couldn't resist. The first book, 'Your Heart Will Be Broken', had a really intriguing title, and I was curious to see what it was about. While it didn't exactly break my heart, it did leave me thinking about the story for days after I finished reading it.
At first, I thought the story was a bit too childish and predictable, and I wasn't a fan of the graphic content in the beginning. But as the story progressed, it started to pick up pace, and I found myself getting more invested in the characters. We learn more about their past, their feelings, and their lives, which really drew me in. The characters are well-developed, and I felt like I was a part of their world.
The Verdict
I have to admit, the book really got to me... Despite the straightforward plot, I found it engaging. The story's about a sweet girl falling for the school's bad boy, and it's a classic tale of first love. What I liked was that it wasn't just about the main characters - there were plenty of secondary characters that added depth to the story. Some of them even helped the protagonists, while others tried to sabotage their relationship...
However, I wasn't too fond of the book's darker moments. It felt out of place in a young adult novel. I think I enjoyed the book more towards the middle, when it focused on love, family, and growing up.
Overall, it's a decent read if you're looking to unwind.
