I'm super stoked to share my personal experience with the 7-day kefir diet.
7-Day Kefir DietLet's cut to the chase - I'm not gonna bore you with the benefits of kefir, since you probably already know it's a super nutritious drink packed with vitamins and minerals. Plus, it's got probiotics that help with digestion, regulate your metabolism, and have a positive impact on overall health.
Kefir was a big deal in pre-revolutionary Russia, and it's no wonder why. In fact, a woman named Irina Sakharova was sent to the Caucasus to hunt for kefir mushrooms. She got kidnapped, but fortunately, she was released soon after, and as punishment, the person who kidnapped her had to give up 10 pounds of kefir mushrooms. And that's how kefir became a staple in Russia.
Now, let's talk about the diet...
This is one of the few diets I've tried when I wanted to lose weight.
Be aware that this diet is pretty strict, so if you've got any health issues with your digestive system, it's best to avoid it or consult with a doc first.
When you're on the kefir diet, you should avoid eating baked goods and other similar treats. You should also steer clear of processed meats, alcohol, sugar, and salt.
If you stick to the plan, you can expect to lose around 5-6 kg in just 7 days.
7-Day Kefir DietSo, here's my 7-day menu:
Monday
I started with 1.5 liters of kefir and 3-4 baked potatoes - it was a bit weird, but I was determined to see it through.
Tuesday
Next was 1.5 liters of kefir and 150g of boiled chicken - I was surprised by how filling it was.
Wednesday
Wednesday's menu consisted of 1.5 liters of kefir and 200g of boiled beef - I was getting used to the routine by now.
Thursday
Thursday's menu was 1.5 liters of kefir and 150-200g of boiled fish (I tried to avoid oily fish, as advised).
Friday
Friday's menu was a bit of a challenge - 1.5 liters of kefir and 1kg of apples (I replaced them with veggies on some days, like carrots, cabbage, or whatever I had on hand).
7-Day Kefir DietSaturday
On Saturday, I stuck to just 1.5 liters of kefir - it was getting harder to resist the temptation of solid food.
Sunday
By Sunday, I was left with only 1.5 liters of kefir - I was proud of myself for making it this far.
I use 1% or 2.5% kefir for my diet, and that's always my choice.
7-Day Kefir DietMy advice to you:
Drink plenty of water during this diet - it'll help suppress hunger and aid in detox.
7-Day Kefir DietStick to kefir without added milk powder and other additives - it's the best way to get the most out of this diet.
7-Day Kefir DietIf you're into dieting or living a healthy lifestyle and using diets for overall wellness, you should know that you need to ease back into regular food after any diet.
7-Day Kefir DietIf you dive straight back into regular food, those lost pounds will come back - trust me, I've been there.
So, after the kefir week, hang out on veggies, kefir, and fruits for another 2-3 days. You can add some low-fat cheese, but not too much, and a small amount of rice.
Really, you should always keep an eye on your diet to keep your body healthy for longer. And, of course, you should exercise regularly, choosing activities that are fun for you.
The results won't take long to show up, as a balanced diet and regular exercise have never done anyone any harm.
Make drinking 1% kefir before bed a daily ritual - it'll help you sleep better.
Avoid or reduce your intake of fatty, processed, and carb-heavy foods - your body will thank you.
Then, you won't need to diet, and you'll stay in shape all the time.
You can also try having occasional fasting days on kefir and fruits, but that's a topic for another time. I'll write more about it soon.
