I'm not exactly the emotional type, but there's one thing that always gets me - animals and nature.

And then there's when your own pets get sick.

That's exactly what happened to my hamster. She managed to jump off the roof of her cage and broke her leg.

A rushed trip to the vet confirmed the diagnosis.

So, I had to get familiar with a vet medication.

Nebolin-Vet

Initially, we were prescribed a different medication, but it was nowhere to be found, so we had to opt for a similar one with the same active ingredient (of course, after consulting with the vet first!). When it comes to tiny creatures like hamsters, or any other animals for that matter, I wouldn't recommend substituting any medication without consulting with a vet.

Volume: 5ml, there was also a 20ml option available, but I didn't need it. However, the dosage depends on the animal's weight, so for larger pets, it's better to get the bigger bottle, it's more cost-effective.

Price: 635 rubles - not cheap, but I'd pay any price to keep my little furball healthy.

Place of purchase: I found it in the vet's pharmacy at "4lapy" store, but I'm sure it's available elsewhere, like "Eapteka".

Packaging.

The primary packaging is a cardboard box.

Design is simple, yet follows all the necessary guidelines for medications.

You can find the expiration date, manufacturer information, and composition on the sides.

Composition is as follows:In 1ml of the medication, there's 1mg of meloxicam, and the excipients are sorbitol, glycerin, xanthan gum, stevia extract, citric acid, microcrystalline cellulose, potassium sorbate, and purified water.

I'd like to note that the active ingredient meloxicam is also used to treat humans.

There's even a picture of a cat and a dog sitting peacefully next to each other.

Inside, you'll find an instruction manual, divided into sections similar to those in human medication.

Indications

Pets can suffer from various types of pain, including post-operative pain syndrome, arthritis and osteoarthritis, spinal disc problems, soft tissue injuries accompanied by pain, and inflammatory diseases of soft tissues, including those of the connective tissue apparatus (such as tendinitis).

Method of use:

Nebolin-vet is administered orally, once a day for 7-14 days: • Dogs: on the first day, 0.2 ml of the preparation per 1 kg of animal body weight (0.2 mg/kg body weight); in subsequent days, 0.1 ml of the preparation per 1 kg of animal body weight (0.1 mg/kg body weight) • Cats: on the first day, 0.1 ml of the preparation per 1 kg of animal body weight (0.1 mg/kg body weight); in subsequent days, 0.05 ml of the preparation per 1 kg of animal body weight (0.05 mg/kg body weight). Before use, the vial with the preparation must be shaken thoroughly. The duration of treatment is determined by the attending veterinarian based on the indications and the animal's condition.

Since I have a much smaller pet, the dosages are completely different. And in any case, they should only be prescribed by a doctor.

There's a screw-top lid at the top, which is initially soldered to a plastic ring on the neck, so you can be sure that no one has opened the medication before you.

There's also a special 1 ml measuring syringe without a needle in the box, to measure the required amount of medication.

That's a huge plus. Honestly, it was quite difficult for me, as the dosage for my tiny hamster is 0.03 ml.

The suspension itself is a pale yellowish color, like a murky liquid, but it's uniform.

It has almost no smell.

By taste (yes, I tried it) it's sweet, you can definitely taste the sweetness of the xylitol (those who have tried sugar substitutes based on it will understand what I'm talking about). So, I think most animals won't be finicky about taking it, which is great, as giving them a tablet is a real challenge for most pets.

The neck of the vial is wide, making it easy to draw the medication.

How to administer

I've found giving the medication orally is way more convenient than injections. My little furball isn't exactly cooperative yet, so I mix it with her food. That's less stressful than trying to squirt it directly into her mouth while holding her.

I just add it to her favorite foods, like yogurt.

And that's it! She's happy to eat and take her meds.

I actually prefer mixing it with her baby food from a spoon, so I can make sure she's getting it all.

She even licks the spoon clean.

And the results are amazing.

After 7 days of treatment, my little one is much more confident in using her back legs and can balance herself better when standing on her hind legs in the bath.

She's even letting me touch her paw, although she's still a bit grumpy about it because she's still getting used to being handled.

Of course, the treatment isn't over yet – we still have two weeks of restricted movement, which means lots of time in her little container. But time and a calcium-rich diet will do the rest.

The verdict:

I highly recommend this medication! It's easy to give to animals, and it's effective. Plus, it's suitable for many species, not just cats and dogs, but also small rodents.

But please, don't try to diagnose or treat your pets yourself – always consult with a vet, as animal illnesses can progress much faster than human ones, and even a few missed days can be critical.

I'm not seeing any downsides, and it's not like it's available everywhere, but that's True for human meds too. And the price? Well, I'd pay any price to keep my pet pain-free. To me, that's priceless.
